Cyberpunk 2077’s Nintendo Switch 2 release will be in the Ultimate Edition, and CDPR wants to assure the player base that they need not start all over again. Cross-progression features will be supported by the new game, so you can upload your saves via the cloud from any other platform. So, if you have played on a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, you can continue your gameplay on Switch 2. Of course, you are free to grind all those eddies again if you want to.
This particular announcement left gamers hanging between excitement and doubt. Some gamers, like Tunnelrat, applauded the title, calling it an “amazing” story with brilliant characters and world design. The otherside germans were worried about performance. One player said that the game was mostly playable:-% maybe 10% not, especially in some areas like the city-center with the tree.
And then the pricing conversation ensued. Gamers such as Ryan Cunliffe, or ZeroManYT, suggested it was unreasonable to ask the consumer for full price for a downgraded experience on Switch 2. On the contrary, Neil Tyrer, aka GregBungy, argued that such third-party titles tend to drop prices as years go by, and The Witcher 3 on Switch being no exception. Don’t discount the portability, though; for some, having Night City in their pocket is a worthy trade-off for some downgraded visuals.
The rapidly anticipated cross-progression might be the big winner here. AEIDOLONE even went on a tantrum stating, “CROSS-PROGRESSION SHOULD BE A STANDARD FOR ALL GAMES!”. Other players wanted more specific implementations: for example, New Game Plus or cross-save Teams for Epic Games and Steam.
However, some people remained uncertain: many doubted if the Switch 2 would really be capable of running this kind of beast. Sarcastic comments included, “Who wants to play at 480p 28fps on an LCD screen?”, but a few threw in the past, such as false promises of next-gen upgrades, saying they would never fall for “that crap again.”
One thing is already decided: Cyberpunk 2077 will be on Switch 2 and will come with all the features demanded by the community. Whether the launch goes smoothly or another wobbly release is yet to be seen, but the Night City is expanding, and that should hold some weight.
And hey, at least an old mystery has been solved: “Can it run Cyberpunk?” Well…kind of.
Boys, sync your saves. With all of you, it’s time to hit to the streets of Night City, just keep your expectations low.
Back to what I was talking about? Right—Switch 2, and Cyberpunk. Oh, yes—cloud saves, right?
Anyway, see you in the afterlife, samurai.
