There has been quite a frenzy about the Chun-Li Item Shop in Fortnite. For about four days since the return of this champion, she has remained perched atop the sales window, proving further that this Street Fighter icon is indeed a must-have for the players. And if you haven’t gotten her yet, consider this as the perfect opportunity; she’s staying for another three days.
The buzz is true, and the figures say it all. Chun-Li has been a steady best seller since her first launch, and this return has been no exception. Could it be a nostalgia factor? Could it be her killer design? Or maybe it’s just those thighs of hers-wink. Whatever the case, players are happily emptying their V-buck wallets over her.
With each hot topic comes an infestation of opinions. Some players joke about this being the perfect time to cash in and say that Epic Game is taking a summer vacation on Street Fighter sales. Others are just happy to see her back after so long in waiting. And then there are- well…very enthusiastic fans whose passion is a sound amplifier for why she is far ahead in sales.
The replies to the original post are a random mixture of hype, sarcasm, and chaos. One player found it funny that the Fortnite community was “desperate for even a crumb of ass,” while another benefitted an argument where Capcom skins are a very different currency, bringing heavy profits for Epic. Then came the debates as to whether other iconic characters like Ryu should get such treatments: but, let’s be honest, Chun-Li has always been the queen of the franchise.
Then of course, there is everything else: some OGs are mad at skins for losing exclusivity; some are grateful because now more people can bask in their glory. A user dragged the whole “OG pride” sentiment, saying it was the only thing some people had left to set themselves apart. Ouch.
The requests for the upcoming collabs go on. There are also cries for Resident Evil skins, Kratos to make a comeback, and an appearance for Nightwing or Saitama as well. Hopefully Fortnite’s cosmetic plan works; players want more, and they’re very loud about that request.
So what’s next? History would prove that Epic shall milk the hype dry. Maybe another Street Fighter character is coming soon, or maybe they’re going to throw a big ol’ curveball at everyone simultaneously. One thing is for sure: Chun-Li ain’t going nowhere, nor the Fortnite community’s enchantment with her.
Still not sure whether to pull the trigger? Remember, she hardly ever goes on sale, and when she does, they sell out in a heartbeat. Just take this as your sign to finally close the deal. Or don’t. But don’t come crying to me.
At least now, if anything, we know what Fortnite players are wildly cashing their V-bucks in. Spoiler: It is not just on the game itself.
