With the hiring spree in full effect, the Internet weighs in with its opinions. The development team recently tweeted a list of open positions at its headquarters in Warsaw, ranging from Publishing QA Manager to Senior Rendering Engineer. This announcement was met with quite a…colorful storm of community reaction rather than acclaim.
Meaning CD Projekt Red is hunting for high-caliber talent, implying some big moves are being made. Could it be Witcher 4? Another Cyberpunk expansion? Perhaps something completely new? The studio is clearly expanding its staff base. The job titles are mostly technical: animation, graphics, DevOps and so on. So, the studio isn’t just hiring for some HR positions—they basically want people with skills to build games with them.
In contrast to this, the replies somewhat get ugly: Some gamers took the chance to start whining about CDPR’s alleged “wokeness” referring to the studio’s Pride Month logo changes: “Woke, boycott Witcher 4,” bluntly stated one, while another, “Try looking in a pride parade, fucking hоmоs.” Charming, indeed.
Here came the conspiracy theorists: “Did everybody leave your company?” implying that mass resignations were taking place. Another went so far as to state, “So Witcher 4 is coming with PS6,” suggesting that the game is still a very long way down the road. (To be honest, CDPR hasn’t set any release window as of yet.)
But that said, not everyone was negative. In fact, some supporters kept the chorus going, such as GameJobs24, which retweeted the announcement with a positive spin. Next came a fellow who offered to “bring coffee to the devs tables”—quite wholesome, albeit a bit under-prepared.
And this is what got the replies rolling with all the drama. Another user brought Baldur’s Gate 3 in, referencing the infamous bear scene (yes, that one), then digressed into “beastility freaks and trans weirdos.” Then others got into a fight over whether The Last of Us Part 2 is “objectively bad” (it isn’t) and for and against arguments on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) hiring practices affecting games (they don’t).
Amidst all of this, one Polish guy dropped this bomb: “CDP is looking for employees, and people are losing their minds over a flag in the logo that’s been there for two weeks.”
So what? CD Projekt Red is recruiting, and the gaming community is… divided. Some see this as blossoming of some good projects, while others choose the battleground for another bunch of cultural war rubbish. Regarding those jobs… well, if you somehow manage to have the skills, I’d recommend applying. Just don’t go anywhere near the comment section afterward.
But here’s something that definitely won’t be undermined: there are battles that every gamer will fight for. Job listings, included.
