Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition offers a degree of flex worthy of any Switch 2 owner, according to CD Projekt Red. Packed with every kind of content that would fry the creative neuronal implants. Base game, Phantom Liberty extension with updates for years, the My Rewards program early access, and some sweet stickers with the physical edition! What could be more cyberpunk than sticking some corporate merch on your laptop?

The CyberpunkGame account teased the package with the usual mixture of hardcore hype and complete mystery: “Just how ultimate is the Ultimate Edition?” as they listed the contents. Players flooded the replies with everything from genuine excitement to typical skepticism and demands for more.

While folks like OBE1plays are still holding onto enjoyment of the Switch 2 edition, guys like Blayze are begging for a real, physical, full PS5 edition (saying the present version is a travesty of having to download Phantom Liberty!). Meanwhile, Shaki12345 is bringing it home with “And it runs like shit. Lol” because some truths transcend platform generations.

If talking about performance issues, then this Ultimate Edition carries a physical stance on the CD Projekt Red redemption arc. According to MarandaScreams, they have been playing for three years nonstop (someone check their vitamin D levels), but African Crusader dropped about 400 hours on PS5 and is keen to check out the Switch 2 port. Those are the kinds of engagement numbers to make your corporate overlords jealous.

Buying that kind of stuff could maybe be justified by the Phantom Liberty expansion, which adds Idris Elba’s presidential campaign manager-turned-spy and an entirely new district to Night City. Adding in the 2.0 overhaul stuff such as revamped police systems and vehicle combat might very well provide the justification to bear the “ultimate” title.

Switch 2 owners can tell the world that the most complete version of Cyberpunk is available to them. No waiting for patches and hotfixes for years, like us, the suckers that were there from day one. Though kollatt makes a really good point here as well: “yeah but you’re planning more updates so it won’t be ultimate soon.” Touché.

The stickers for a physical edition might appear as a silly bonus, but with how this world is becoming cyberpunk, physical media is on its way to extinction. Between this and the My Rewards program that gets you free stuff in CDPR games, this feels like a heartfelt gift for all collectors and completionists.

Players such as Th3FaLL3nGh0St are calling for flyable EVs to come with the upcoming update while TomtomproX is wondering if Switch 2 will see updates 2.3 and later, with CDPR almost definitely supporting all platforms if history is any indicator, unless of course, the hardware on Switch 2 at some point drops into an abyss under the weight of Night City.

Surely, the arrival of the Ultimate Edition on Switch 2 is an entirely different mess of intrigue that casts doubts over the unannounced console’s capabilities. Can it run the most demanding version of Cyberpunk 2077 (albeit on lower settings)? That would finally end Nintendo’s word as an underpowered hardware vendor. Or, as CyVHQ5M3qDhPG1M commented, “450$(ns2)+69.99$(2077)=FPS 19.” Oof.

What is sure is that CDPR is already late for the party of the console generation, and it’s just late for the next generation that this and Witcher 4 are giving a very serious shot. Going from console punch-line to a redemption narrative; they now have their big bet on Nintendo’s next big winning play. Now, whether or not Switch 2 is classy and runs the port at a respectable 60fps or keeps changing the primary colors of Night City neon lights into blurs on a very early morning commute is a whole new story.
