In the continued battle against overpopulated realms, Blizzard has extended their list of restrictions for character realm transfers on World of Warcraft: Classic.

We’ve spoken a few times in the past on the population issues that are currently plaguing the Classic clients, which are so bad that much of the player base has moved their characters to other realms simply to be able to play. In many cases, players have left the title outright, often returning to the modern servers.

In the past, Blizzard has implemented a number of restrictions on high-population servers to stop players from filling them. Sometimes the developers will stop allowing players to make characters, while other times they may stop players from transferring to the realm.

Continuing this, Blizzard has once again updated their transfer restrictions, adding a handful of realms from both the EU and the US region. These restrictions are meant to prevent the growth of these already overfilled realms.

The following US servers have been restricted:

  • Arugal (PvP)
  • Benediction (PvP)
  • Earthfury (PvP)
  • Faerlina (PvP)
  • Fairbanks (PvP)
  • Grobbulus (RP-PvP)
  • Herod (PvP)
  • Pagle (Normal)
  • Sulfuras (PvP)
  • Whitemane (PvP)

It’s interesting to see that PvP servers are being directly targeted so heavily, with only a single of the servers being restricted not being a PvP server. This is sensible, however, when you remember that world PvP is much more lively in the Classic client than the Retail servers.

For the European realms, we have the following ten servers being restricted:

  • Ashbringer (PvP)
  • Auberdine(Normal)
  • Firemaw (PvP)
  • Flamegor (PvP)
  • Gehennas (PvP)
  • Golemagg (PvP)
  • Mograine (PvP)
  • Sulfuron (PvP)
  • Venoxis (PvP)
  • Zandalar Tribe (RP-PVP)

Interestingly, we have the same split being offered, with only a single of the servers being a non-PvP server. Again, for the same reason stated above, this makes sense, as the PvP scene is a bright part of Classic’s endgame content.

“You cannot purchase a Paid Character Transfer to those realms,” Blizzard clarified, explaining the restrictions. “Restrictions may be added or lifted as necessary at any time, without warning. As always, we suggest that plyers who wish to avoid queues on the most popular realms select a different realm than those listed above.”

Players that are already on these realms should still be able to purchase a transfer away from the server, if they so choose. Blizzard has previously allowed players to leave for free, but as the population has come under control, the free realm transfers being promoted seem to have fallen away.
