World of Warcraft has had an incredibly powerful run in the esports world recently. Fresh off the back of the completion of the cup phase of the Mythic Dungeon International tournament, the titanic MMORPG is about to begin their next big tournament.
The Arena World Championship will be beginning tomorrow, with the coverage of the first EU cup beginning at 10:00 AM PDT. In anticipation of the event, Blizzard released a trailer to fuel the hype train, which we’ve embedded below.
For those that may be unfamiliar with World of Warcraft, the title has a great amount of Player-vs-Player content, with Arenas being one of the main focuses. Quick, competitive, and brutal, Arena matches pit players against each other in duels for supremacy.
In Arenas, the brutality knows no loyalty. Horde fights Horde, Alliance fights Alliance, and the two factions battle each other just as frequently. With the exception of the teammates that stepped into battle with you, there are no loyalties.
This tournament is also an incredibly long-standing one, as far as esports go. The Arena World Championship 2020 will be the thirteenth year of the competition, with the greatest players competing to have their spot of supremacy.
Considering the title turns sixteen this year, having a tournament that’s been running for thirteen years is quite an accomplishment. With such a powerful history, there’s always quite a bit for players to live up to as they compete.
Of course, there’s more than history and prestige on the line as well. The top four teams from each region – Americas as well as Europe/Asia – will battle each other out in the Battle for Azeroth Finals for their stake in the prize pool. Contestants will be competing for their share of USD $500,000
While tomorrow marks the start of the tournament with the first of the Cup phases, the tournament will be going on for quite some time. Every weekend, viewers will be able to find the cups raging on until June 13th, where the phase will end.
Fridays will always be the EU cup, whereas Saturdays will be the NA cups. The coverage will also always begin at the same time, so you won’t have to juggle your calendar around to make sure that you know the starting time.
With so much on the line, we’ll be seeing a great amount of drama and excitement during this tournament. The Arena World Championship 2020 is finally here to showcase all of its high-octane chaos and brutality.
