The Last of Us Part 2 has now been out for more than a week. In that time, it has gone on to sell exceptionally well. In fact, it’s the fastest-selling Sony games for the PS4 — even surpassing the incredible Marvel’s Spider-Man that released back in 2018.
It’s clear that Naughty Dog hit this sequel out of the park despite some negative pushback for its story. Players who’ve spent ample time with it have remarked positively on its impressive visuals, atmosphere, and competent combat.
The Last of Us Part 2 is also a pretty dark game that forces you into same graphic situations. If you can push through and make it to the end, you’ll have an incredible journey to look back on.
But what about multiplayer? It didn’t release at launch with the main campaign as Naughty Dog simply didn’t have the time. They had to dedicate all of their efforts to making the campaign something truly special.
However, the developer hasn’t ruled out the possibility of online multiplayer at later date. They believe it is an important element given how well the online portion did in the original game.
If you don’t remember, it featured a survival experience between different factions. Players had the choice of teaming up with the Hunters or the Fireflies. Whichever faction you sided with, you had to use a lot of strategy to survive the challenges in a post-apocalyptic setting.
It was a very competent multiplayer that received a lot of positive praises at the time. Naughty Dog could do something very similar and even expand upon it in notable ways. For example, they could add even more playable factions and modes to the mix. That would keep the excitement going strong for gamers that pick up The Last of Us Part 2.
And although the developer hasn’t provided a lot of concrete details on the multiplayer portion, it’s still very likely to happen. It wouldn’t even be surprising to see it get rolled out when the PlayStation 5 comes out.
Then players would have a new standalone experience to look forward to with better visuals. Sounds like a pretty solid strategy. Hopefully, Naughty Dog doesn’t keep fans in the dark for too much longer.
It’s clear the online portion is wanted and now that the base game has been rolled out, the team can dedicate more of their time to making the multiplayer something truly special. That’s the hope right now anyway.
