Having finally dropped Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga on Nintendo Switch + Expansion Pack, great as that may be, the demand for more titles has already hit an all-time high. A lot more really. The reply sections of the Nintendo America announcement tweet drowned in demands for DK64 and unfounded negativity against the Expansion Pack Edition paywall. It is, really, a classic fan tantrum against a classic franchise.
So now Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is playable on Switch through the Expansion Pack. This is the GBA Mario and Luigi tagged-team RPG turn-based battling adventure with Bros. Attack and mayhem in Beanbean Kingdom. Really, whether you missed out on this on the day or didn’t own it, this is your chance for a repeat, if you can shelve out for the Online.
Things about Nintendo fans is that they are almost always dissatisfied (God help them, in most cases). So, in the middle of the excitement came salt and calls for attention. One of them said that DK64 should have been released instead of this, coming up to Donkey Kong Banana Mania or whatever it is called. “Seriously, do you guys want to forget that game or something?” That was a very valid question, in my opinion.
Then begins the debate on the Expansion Pack. Some pleaded for Nintendo to bring back the Virtual Console rather than lock the classics behind a subscription; “Let us buy the games we want!” cried @BlueYoshi420 to the void. Others simply find those GBA emulator borders annoying,” “When will we be able to remove these horrible black and white spots on the sides?” asked @Axioule_axel. Aesthetic complains are always in fashion.
# A lot of randomness. @MattFazer102 gave, “Master Toadsworth was killed on 06-06-06… His body was never found.” Uh… okay? That came way too fast. Then @CeriadnaBayo threatened Nintendo with the statement, “When I get to Japan, you’ll WISH I was Mitsuda.” No clue what that means, but it sounds pretty serious.
Really, the takeaway here: They want more. More classic games, less paywall, and maybe a few answers about that Toadsworth assassination. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is a great start, but until Nintendo drops DK64 or Diddy Kong Racing or at least fixes those GBA borders, the complaints will keep on going.
So, hey! If you have the Expansion Pack, go play Superstar Saga. A gem it truly is. Then maybe, just maybe, just tweet Nintendo about DK64 while you are at it. Just in case.
