Tamagotchi Plaza melts the nostalgia substance into a new-age glamour and is now out on the Nintendo Switch and its successor- the new Switch 2. Players find themselves now in Tamahiko Town, running shops, making friends, and minigames-the entire bag and baggage of what we really love about Tamagotchi, but on a much larger scale. So much those cries were already heard great and loud in the gaming community-basically could be for this gorgeous new experience or just because Nintendo needs some screaming about fixing Mario Kart World (more on that later).

What is Tamagotchi Plaza? Well, unlike the previous iteration, Tamagotchi Plaza does not just focus on keeping an animal alive-an entire town is created, shops are moved, and minigames are played with other players. It’s basically Animal Crossing with good old vibes of Tamagotchi. If you are wondering why this matters… well, it’s Tamagotchi. On the console. With multiplayer capabilities, and that’s HUGE for anyone who grew up clutching those little egg-shaped gadgets.

Split, mostly hyped. Some players like Cody-Jade couldn’t wait to get their hands on it, downloading it the minute it dropped and calling it a childhood dream come true; others like Gabu SAMCAB put it into rank with Hello Kitty games (and that is, to be fair, an interesting comparison). Then, on the Switch 2 side, there is Mari, finally happy with a reason to use their new console. The rest of them are still begging for achievements (looking at you, Lost).

There were just as many non-fans of the Tamagotchi appreciation, to be fair. Large parts of the response? Just plain demands for Nintendo to undo the Mario Kart World update. Like really, that rage is binding. Matt says he barely wants to play online anymore because of the track changes, and Farfetch’d? They didn’t even bother with punctuations-just “FIX MARIO KART WORLD ONLINE” spirit in all caps. Princewill and Simply then joined that chaos with their own “fix Mario cart” demands (yes, they spelled it “cart,” which honestly adds to the chaos).

Some gamers, meanwhile, are out there demanding Mother 3 ports or full GameCube libraries (Alex, we see you) while others are just filled with existential dread about pixels. Rozy just straight-up admitted to crying over “pixels with feelings,” and honestly, taste of mood.

For collectors, Josh Grilli just dropped some wisdom-the Japanese version actually has the full game on the cart and supports multiple languages, so if imports are your thing, there you go.

Just weirdly wholesome for the Switch lineup, Tamagotchi Plaza carries big nostalgia on its shoulders with some cool new social gameplay. Will it dethrone Mario Kart as Nintendo’s top-tier online game anytime soon? Absolutely not. But for every one of you that hid a Tamagotchi away in your desk during class, this one goes on your try-now list. If you’ll excuse me, I have to check if my Tamagotchi is still alive.
