Call Of Duty League: What We Know So Far About The Inaugural Esports Season – Format, Teams, Launch Date

The Call of Duty League is an esports league centered around the newly launched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The first season of the league will feature several events throughout the year and will end by crowning the inaugural Call of Duty League Champion.

Teams will also battle it out for their share of a prize pool worth more than six million dollars.

Launch date, location
The inaugural season of Call of Duty League will start on Friday, January 24, 2020, and will run through the weekend. It will take at the Minneapolis Armory, in Minneapolis Minnesota. The event is hosted by one of the twelve league teams, Minnesota Røkkr.

Call of Duty League is a city-based esports league. There will be twelve teams that span four different countries. The teams are: Atlanta FaZe, Chicago Huntsmen, Dallas Empire, Florida Mutineers, London Royal Ravens, Los Angeles Guerrillas, Minnesota Røkkr, New York Subliners, Optic Gaming Los Angeles, Paris Legion, Seattle Surge, and Toronto Ultra.

Each team will have a minimum of five players.

Season format:
Throughout the first season of Call of Duty League, events will be hosted around the globe by teams in their home markets. The league will also host their own events, including the Call of Duty League Midseason Weekend and Call of Duty League Championship Weekend. Locations for those two events are to be determined.

The regular season, not including the postseason, will be divided into two halves. The league teams will be ranked via their wins and loss record. The more wins, the higher the ranking. The six teams that rank the highest will advance to the postseason, and two other teams will advance through wildcard matches. This will bring the number of teams in the postseason to eight.

The final event of the season, the Call of Duty League Championship Weekend, will host the top six teams from the postseason. These teams will face off in double-elimination competition that will leave two teams left standing.

Those two teams will battle it out to see which team is the inaugural Call of Duty League Champions.

Match format and ruleset.
Competitors in The Call of Duty League will play matches in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The matches will feature a five vs. five format, and a best of five series. Teams will play different maps and game modes.
The official rules have not been posted yet.

Home series events:
Each team will host two events within their market, one during each half of the regular season. Dates and locations for all the events have not been announced yet, besides the opening event in Minneapolis.
