Every now and then, we get a unique concept in the sports genre. The most recent example of this is Rocket League. It takes the simple concept of soccer and adds cars to the mix. It seems like Broomstick League is looking to do the same thing only with wizards, witches, and broomsticks.

If you’ve read any Harry Potter book, the concept might sound a lot like Quidditch. It’s a sport prominently featured in the series, and now thanks to the efforts of Virtual Basement LLC, the concept is coming to a modern video game. Broomstick League is a fast-paced online multiplayer where two teams go toe to toe in the air.

Players will get to fly on a broomstick across large arenas, where they’ll have to take a ball and score before opponents intercept it and try to do the same on the other end. It sounds exactly like Quidditch from Harry Potter, only with simpler rules. In theory, this game could have a lot of success.

A game much like it in Rocket League burst onto the scene back in 2015. It has since gone on to achieve a cult-like following. The game is simple but so fun to play over and over again. Broomstick League could be the same experience, only with brooms instead of cars.

It’s not just about flying across the stage on a broom, though. Players also will be equipped with a trusty wand, which can be used to cast spells for various purposes. You’ll have to be quick on the trigger if you want to avoid running into the opposition, too. To intercept the ball from an opposing team, players will have to cast a blast spell. It’s designed to knock the ball out of an opponent’s hand, which can then be retrieved from the other team.

There’s also a bink spell that teleports players for goal-scoring opportunities. Like the popular Rocket League, you’ll have so many options as far as player customizations go. The more you play, the better rewards and items you’ll receive. Some give you an edge in the matches while others are strictly cosmetic.

Broomstick League is currently set to hit the Steam store sometime in 2020. A beta will be available a little earlier for those that want to test out this high-flying action firsthand. It seems like a pretty competent sports title that puts an interesting twist on soccer yet again.
