Good Smile Company recently participated in the Crunchyroll Online Convention. The company announced several new figures in progress, including sneak previews of previously announced toys like Triss Merigold from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As part of the Pop Up Parade figure line, Thatgamecompany, Santa Monica Studio, and Sony‘s Traveler from Journey will soon come to life.
Pop Up Parade figures are highly detailed collector’s pieces from popular media. The figure stands around 17-18cm in height with additional accessories to make it stand out. The Traveler is sculped to showcase its long robe and flowing scarf. The base is simple but has a sand cloud beneath the figure’s feet to keep it upright.
The statue is unlike Good Smile Company’s other creations like Figmas and Nendoroids. The Traveler is non-articulated and only comes with a stand. No additional accessories are included, and the scarf does not light up.
After the figure of the Traveler was announced, Good Smile Company placed it for pre-order on its official website and authorized retailers. While there is less than a month to pre-order the figure, sometimes they sell out quickly. Fans are advised to purchase it as soon as possible. However, if the figure does sell out before or after the pre-order period, GSC has re-released Pop Up Parade statues so more people can obtain their favorite characters in physical form.
Journey was first launched in 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and was later ported onto the PS4 in 2015. Players take control of a robed figure as it travels throughout the desert. Eventually, players may meet another traveler along the journey. The player’s scarf will glow when another person is nearby. However, when they reunite, they can’t speak to each other nor will they know each other’s PlayStation account names.
Together, players can bond together to complete each level. After the journey has been completed and the credits roll, players can learn more about the stranger and either part ways forever or continue knowing each other. The game is only a few hours long but was popular for the emotional journey for players. The game won several awards and was well-received among gamers.
While Good Smile Company is a Japanese business, they have retailers in multiple countries. Due to COVID-19, Japan is not shipping to many countries without additional fees, so choosing a nearby authorized retailer is the best option. GSC, in particular, has a US shop, so buyers within the country won’t have to wait to obtain the Traveler figure.
The Pop Up Parade figure of the Traveler from Journey is available for pre-order until October 1. The statue is expected to ship in January 2021.
