It’s been a long time coming, but Obsidian Entertainment’s popular RPG The Outer Worlds is finally headed to the Nintendo Switch! Taking to Twitter, developers Private Division announced the new release date for the ported title.

The Nintendo Switch port of The Outer Worlds will be arriving soon! According to Private Division, the title is set to drop exactly two weeks from today on June 5th!

This release comes not long after the port had to be pushed back, with development being significantly impacted and slowed by recent events. The COVID-19 pandemic was reportedly responsible for being the primary cause of the delays, pushing the title back drastically.

At the time of the announcement back in February, the team was unable to give a release date, as they couldn’t predict how much more time would be needed due to the pandemic. Pushed back indefinitely.

Specifically, Private Division stated that the main reason was that the team at Virtuos that was working directly on the port had been shut down. While the team was still safe and healthy, which Private Division quickly clarified, the shutdown of the office due to the virus had made them unable to work on the physical port properly.

As a result, the physical version of the title will be released as a cartridge. This is the first time since the announcement of the delay that the team at Private Division has given any sort of update, and it comes to resounding positivity, which was thankfully the same reception to the news in the first place.

It also may not have helped much that the Nintendo Switch has had the best year of its lifespan so far, selling off of shelves as production slowed amidst the virus. The release of titles like Animal Crossing made it so that there literally weren’t enough Switches to go around!

Now that the shelves are mostly restocked and fans are ready to get their hands on another title, the delay may even end up helping the sales of The Outer World. Given that the title has already reached a great amount of acclaim for its original releases, the port has been in high demand.

The Outer Worlds has been one of the most highly acclaimed RPGs in the last few years. Led by genre veterans and developers of Fallout: New Vegas Obsidian Entertainment, the title has been a smash hit amongst the RPG community.

With only two weeks left to go, it won’t be long until fans are able to get their hands on the title. Hopefully the next two weeks go as seamlessly as possible and there are no more issues in the development.
