Earlier this week, Twitter user The Gaming Revolution, who is usually reliable when it comes to Call of Duty-related leaks, revealed that a Battle Pass was being planned for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The user also revealed that there won’t be a loot box system in the upcoming first-person shooter.
Then on Thursday, Activision confirmed that there won’t be a loot box system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but the game will feature a Battle Pass. So, once again, The Gaming Revolution’s COD-related leak proved to be correct in the end.
Over on their official blog, Activision revealed the details for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Battle Pass.
- We are introducing a new Battle Pass system, not a loot box system.
- All functional content that has an impact on game balance, such as base weapons and attachments, can be unlocked simply by playing the game.
- The new Battle Pass system will allow players to see the content that they are earning or buying. Battle Passes will launch timed to new, post-launch live seasons, so you can unlock cool new Modern Warfare-themed content that matches each season.
- With the new Battle Pass system, players will be able to earn COD Points by playing the game.
- There will be both a Free Stream and a Premium Stream of content in the Battle Pass System in Modern Warfare. New base weapons will be earned through gameplay, simply by playing Modern Warfare.
- The Battle Pass and the In-Game Store will feature a variety of cosmetic content that does not impact game balance.
Activision also confirmed that the Battle Pass won’t be available at launch.
In addition to leaking Activision’s plan for a Battle Pass in their upcoming game, The Gaming Revolution also reported that there will be a Battle Royale mode added to Modern Warfare post-launch and that it’ll be free-to-download and play this coming January. So, that’s probably when the Battle Pass will go live.
As of this writing, Activision hasn’t announced a Battle Royale mode, but according to the aforementioned Twitter user, the mode is Infinity Ward’s primary focus now that COD: MW has gone gold. If that is, in fact, the case, then expect to see the devs announce the mode before the end of the year.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is currently scheduled to be released on the Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 on October 25, and for the first time, the game will feature crossplay, which will allow players on all platforms to play with and against each other.
