Alienware asked this really innocent question on Twitter, which ended up unraveling on massive debates in the PC gaming community: “And what GPU will your next PC have?” And the answers ranged from the funny ones to some very serious upgrade plans. Over 30 responses appeared within the first 15 minutes of the tweet, indicating just how passionate gamers are about their hardware choices.
People ran with the question after that, @JohnnyGlitcher with an almost instant plea to Alienware: “Send me a laptop!” No shame there! Meanwhile, @Xandinho_111 was already making wishes about the future: “Lol but my next gpu is 5080 or 5090 if the money leaves.” That “if the money leaves” does hit quite close to home these days.
The sensible budget people came in the same sort of force. Keeping things real, @TheHybridVR said: 5060 ti 16gb, or something slightly better. I don’t look for highest-tier, I prefer cost per performance. Also longevity of the components.” That is a smart statement. Not everybody needs to chase the absolute top-tier cards, especially these days with the prices on those GPUs.
Prices, prices, prices! That was the genuine subject here. Hitting that one down right was @Semajlaeno17 with a sad truth: “I want a 5090 but can’t afford it sadly.” And @Suprati87482502 went on with the ultimate gamer sob story: “Been running without a GPU for 12+ years. And seeing the current market condition, doubt I would even be able to dream of buying a upgraded PC.” Ouch, really oof.
The future-proofers also delivered some nice wild predictions. @Mix3Design was years ahead: “Nvidia X Edition (Spoiler of the 10th Nvidia GPU generation) I believe in 2028 or 2029.” On the other hand, @polyhysterical remarked, “At the rate my build is going, a 6090 and it’ll be niiiiice.” Long-term plan, anyone?
We had some classic PC master race humor thrown in there. @Lord_Santa unleashed the old-school gamer rant: “Next PC? I’m running a second generation i7 with some crummy old GeForce. Why would I want to upgrade, ever? What possible gains could I have from spending more moneys on my PC? What revolutionary prospects are on the horizon? PC ain’t got shit. Innovation be dead for decades.” Okay, granny, off to bed!
The laptop gang also had their say. @Mordret3 spilled his thoughts: “Think a Laptop. Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 Prozessor 285HX. NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5090. 3840×2400 UHD+, 120 Hz. 96 GB RAM, 4 TB SSD.” Damn, save some for the rest of us!
Alienware returned with much fun on tweets such as “4K here we come!” to one upgrading to the 5080, joking with @TheLimpingMerc about their couriers stealing packages – “Fingers crossed! 🤞”
Replies ranged the whole spectrum, from saving up for their first real GPU to those who’re so enthusiastic that they have been conceptualizing their builds years in advance. All this goes to show that the GPU market has kept us all on our toes, from those who are now rocking cards over a decade old, to those who dream of yet-unreleased models. One thing’s for sure: when that next upgrade actually drops-and soon-will really set the hype off. And then you probably shouldn’t even glance at your bank account!
