The other day we were all overjoyed to note that the coming twin titan titles we all know as DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be coming out on the same day this week. That is double the trouble for all of our lovely, lovely gamers out there. And to celebrate, Gamestop was going to do this dance just as they have always done it: With an awesome celebration and midnight release thing going on as soon as the clock struck 12.
Well, there is some good and there is some bad news out there now for gamers of every single stripe: The twin titan release has been canceled in light of the changing dynamics unleashed upon our weak and struggling society. Those dynamics were inevitably caused by the thing we all know as the Coronavirus, and it is out there just wrecking it all. This is way too bad, my friends, and we all are going to ultimately hate it.
But, there is a spot of good news out there too. As it turns out, this sort of thing is really also very helpful. It is the sort of thing that will slow the spread of the virus, and help keep it contained.
And that, my friends, is also a blessing. It is a blessing because if you think about it, this sort of thing will actually keep everyone protected to some capacity from the virus running through society and destroying it. But more than this, it is also inessential for video gamers to get out there in public anyway. Just think about it: You’re a gamer! You don’t need to leave the house.
If you want to understand how this works, then you just need to think about things in terms of the way we do them. The gamers will need to be careful about everything in the world, but now they will totally safe tucked away in their bunkers inside their gaming lairs.
Anyway, there is a little bit of a silver lining in all of this. Although Gamestop is ultimately going to cancel the midnight release of their crazy, crazy games, this does not mean that they will not be allowing the games to be released at all. And by “they,” we, of course, mean the developers. Yes, you can still go out and buy both Animal Crossing and DOOM. So your quarantine period will not be totally devoid of fun and games. Now, if only we could get our hands on some food…
