Fatshark went live with their recent event, Year of the Rat, after postponing it a few days due to a last-minute crash. Along with the beginning of the event, they’ve released their “Shark Tank” update where they go through recent events and provide the community with a bit of information and transparency.

It’s always fantastic to get a peek behind the curtain, and fans generally appreciate getting that extra bit of understanding from the developers. Fatshark does a great job of letting players know as much going on behind the scenes as possible so that they aren’t left in the dark when things go awry.

Of course, they also take the opportunity to keep fans up to date on changes and additions to the game. With the Year of the Rat beginning, they’ve taken the opportunity to inform players on what exactly went wrong with the patch.

“A patch has shipped today to fix a few issues that arose with this update, mostly crashes as well as some fixes to leaderboard progression in the Weaves,” they write. “You’d think that enabling critters in the keep was as simple as a toggle box but really it’s much more complex than that, and some crazy issues arose upon toggling that hypothetical box. They need somewhere to spawn, a navigational mesh so they know where they can and cannot go and places to try and escape to.”

Along with these issues, Fatshark spoke on a handful of issues that were having a knock-on effect on spawning behaviors in different game modes. Players that don’t have any experience with coding or game creation are often surprised when something as seemingly-minor as adding rats to walk around an area can have such a heavily snowballing effect. Fatshark speaks on having ten different candidates for this update, which is more than many larger updates end up seeing.

To end, Fatshark talks about how encountering these issues now stops them from having to deal with them later, meaning that they likely won’t run into the same issue down the line. If they do, they’ll have a better idea of how to handle it to minimize the impact it has on players.

Finally, Fatshark shares a few screenshots of the maps that are expected to release later this month, Blood in the Darkness. They speak on working to properly test the content before release to cut down on issues. They’ve also added a few new cosmetic items to Lohner’s Emporium, so you can go and add a bit of flair to your character of choice if you’ve got the Shillings!
