Ubisoft has happily imparted some solid new information relating to the latest exotic weapon in Division 2, the Catalyst: the weapon is actually a perfect counter to the dangerous new Cleaners’ purple flame. But while the gun IS made of fire on the server side, with its lag being an atrocious thing to behold, the actual player-base has been roasting the devs.

Great, so let’s talk a little bit about this Catalyst exotic being so-called as the last-resort counter to those nightmare-inducing purple flames the Cleaners have been conjuring up lately. A very sleek showcase was put out on Division 2‘s official Twitter account where this weapon is seen shredding flames with whatever kind of tech it possesses. No word on drop rates or how one acquires one, but you just KNOW the grind is coming.

Meanwhile, the replies section got turned into a war zone. Spawning from all over the globe, reports were surfacing about horrible lag spikes, rubberbanding, and outright unplayability of the game. They called out on Twitter with one agent saying, “Game is so laggy out of sudden??? Even weekends with a thousand ppl queuing also no such issue.” Others talked about ammo counts glitching, skills not activating, and open-world areas turning into slideshows.

The server woes are supposed to be extra hard for Asian regions, with multiple players affirming the game is “literally unplayable” there. A few gave piercing opinions about Ubisoft’s server infrastructure, one stating that the unpleasant circumstances came from the fact that they only keep servers in Paris now. Ouch. The only manner in which this is broken is that the latency is outplaying you in plain sight instead of the actual enemy.

The problems did obviously not end right there: Veterans laid low on the sparse raid content that had only two raids in seven years, while others made fun of pointless cosmetic animations that no one bothered to see. And so a salt tsunami louder than the one hitting Potomac was pouring in. Even the Catalyst hype couldn’t steer player focus from that technical dumpster fire.

Much to some people’s joy, the discussion of exotic weapons became something to escalate further drama in the community. Then the players started arguing about veteran rewards, one flaunting three Catalyst guns to another who was lamenting the lack thereof. “If you take ‘pride’ in showing off this stuff, you should have put in more effort instead of blaming others,” responded another agent. Ouch. Dark Zone ain’t got nothing on this Twitter beef.”

Ubisoft has yet to take the server complaints seriously; the amount of backlash sure means that sooner rather than later they will have to address it. With seasonal content, the Division 2 has been trucking right along, but things like this can push players so far away faster than a rogue agent chasing your loot drop.

Until such time, it’s either put up with lag or put the game down and hope for better days. In the meantime, go ahead and theorycraft your next builds because that Catalyst won’t farm itself… whenever the servers feel like cooperating again. Don’t expect the community to stay quiet, though; when Division players aren’t happy, they make sure EVERYBODY knows.
