A well-known leaker has admitted to spreading false information regarding upcoming Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid remakes. Even though it has been years since Konami released a real AAA game, the company is still widely recognized as a leading force in the video game industry.
They have the keys to some of the industry’s most popular properties, and they’ve broken players’ hearts by basically canceling the series for the foreseeable future. When Konami decided not to release Hideo Kojima’s latest entry in the Silent Hills franchise, this trend began. The game was canceled after the now-famous PT demo received nearly universal praise. After Kojima severed ties with the series over a disagreement with the publisher, Metal Gear Solid fell by the wayside.
The industry has been buzzing with whispers of a comeback for both of these properties for years. It was reported by TheRealInsider, a reliable insider, that a new Silent Hill game and a Metal Gear Solid remake were in the works.
However, there is one minor problem: it was recently discovered that TheRealInsider is actually a YouTuber going by the name DanAllenGaming.
The YouTuber admitted to leaking information he learned while invited to industry events, in violation of NDAs and embargoes. He went so far as to call the rumors about Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid “bullish—t” and affirm that he had invented them. DanAllenGaming has revealed he would be taking a hiatus from his channel and has deleted both his personal and TheRealInsider Twitter accounts.
To be fair, other insiders have also claimed to have heard rumors of a new Silent Hill game and a Metal Gear Solid remake. As recently as the past several months, there have even been a few images released for the former.
