An unprecedented tweet from Xbox Game Pass landed, “GO FORTH INTO AZEROTH” and, well, the Internet did not abide by calm for the most part. But this is not how things would have unfolded. Instead of pure anger-induced excitement, the comment section dragged out a mixture of unrestrained, frustrated cries and plain old console wars. Let’s dissect the matter.
Well, the tweet is simple. It acts as a clarion call about Azeroth, the immensely famous world of World of Warcraft. And the comments, oh Lord. Directly thereafter, the players started chucking forth the big question: When is WoW coming to Xbox? One user, the @dilragereborn, straightforwardly asked, “World of Warcraft when?” To be honest, I would do the same. The demand for a console port is real, with the gamers like @abdoulatif1111 screaming, “WHERE’S THE XBOX VERSION I mean port??!!!!” Caps lock fully engages this desire.
Now, it’s another matter altogether: WoW on a console cannot be something just switched on willy-nilly. As @samarzQC said, “I’m sure porting WoW to console is very simple and easy.” Spoiler: No, really not. UI-wise, controls-wise, game design-wise, it’s a PC game at heart. The implementation of a controller in that respect would be… horrible. Still, some players pitch different solutions: @qoe999 suggested just putting a label saying “needs keyboard and mouse” on it, which to be honest isn’t a bad idea. I mean, Xbox supports KB&M after all.
Then the classic “Xbox versus PC” goes right down the stream. Some gamers are getting salty on @CruumBy because they’re arguing WoW is on Game Pass… but, not on Xbox: “Xbox Game Pass but not on Xbox, very nice guys.” Oof. Then @MMaRsu retaliated, saying, “My PC is also an Xbox. Maybe stop crying.” The platform wars never die, folks.
Get into an Activision-Blizzard reference. @5AMMIUP summed up the mood with, “This Activision takeover was so fucking pointless man😭” Harsh, but fair. Now with Microsoft as the proud owners of Activision-Blizzard, more was expected from them—like, WoW on Xbox.” But so far? Radio Silence.
Well, not everybody is mad about it. Some, like @samarzQC, are nostalgic. “Yeah I played a ton of Warcraft 2 back then. Great game.” A wholesome instance in a sea of chaos.
What’s the takeaway? Would be a Wooow! if WoW on Xbox were to come about, but it does get complicated. Demand sits there; tech, maybe; drama, yes it sure is. Until then, it’s just PC players basking in Azeroth love on Game Pass; the console ones keep dreaming. And tweeting mostly.
