The WNBA season is coming into full swing, and so are the debates over NBA 2K player ratings. When the drop in the ratings happened, fans erupted into significant chatter, with some stars maintaining their upper-echelon finishes while leaving others perplexed.
Leading with an overall of 98 is A’ja Wilson, no surprise there since she was disruptive. Although not everybody is sold on the idea, some fans say the rating is too high, and others say it should be higher. Well, one person even said, “A’ja should be 100.” And I mean, you really cannot argue with her performance from last year.
Then, you have Breanna Stewart at a 97, which has raised various critics. One user said, “They gave Stewie a 97 off legacy because she ain’t like that anymore.” Ouch. Well, jokes aside, Stewie is surely holding her case for being one of the best in the game, even if her numbers have slightly gone down.
Then we resurface into more divide on Alyssa Thomas at a 94 rating. Some will say 94 is way overtaking and that she would max at 85. Yet others defended her, claiming she brings much more than the numbers. “Ppg ain’t the only factor gang,” one member shot back. And they are right-there’s quite a lot that Thomas does, from playmaking to defense, so a 94 rating isn’t really that far off.
Now here is some real drama: the absence of Caitlin Clark from the top. “Caitlin should be 100” said one fan, to which another joked, “58,” which… okay, that’s just mean. Clark has really been lighting it up; love it or hate it, and yet not even seeing her name in discussions is kind of a shock.
More craziness follows on Twitter as fans are giving thumbs up or down to stats, arguments on positions, and whether defense even matters for 2K ratings. “Saying defense don’t matter in 2k ratings is wild,” answered one user. And honestly, they are somewhat right. Defense wins championships, but in 2K, it sometimes feels like offense and ball handling earn all the accolades.
Ratings will be an everlasting argument. Some fans are even okay with manual adjustments (“Just adjust your ratings to how you see fit lol”), others have given it more consideration. But what is assured: This WNBA season will be fire from both on-stage and in-game perspectives.
Overrated? Underrated? And why does it matter so much to some people? Whoever knows! But one thing is sure, WNBA stars are currently dominating the limelight, and that has got to be the easiest win.
Well, I have to go and tweak my 2K roster before anyone goes after me for it.
