And there was the bombshell that dropped on VALORANT players: Clove’s actual name being Ollie Baird. What a grabber! The esteemed leaker VALORANTLeaksEN officially announced it via their Twitter page, and the Internet was set ablaze.
Personally, the name “Ollie” does fit Clove, no pun intended. Players, fully embracing the name, ran away with it further with @misakigf commenting, “ofc their name is ollie i fuckin love that,” while @marieannfred1 had to agree: “Idk why but the name ollie is like perfect for them😭🫶.” Indeed, I feel the same; it almost feels unisex and has that sort of cool-kid vibe which just works with Clove.
And just like that-the clamour started, and it did so instantly. See, Clove is non-binary, and many just couldn’t come to grips with it. @AlexanderA0206 just said, “What? so she is actually him?” and it exploded with hundreds of replies telling them they were wrong. For instance, @justkiryyy said: “Them, not she or he 🗿,” while @Cait_Real_ enjoyed repeating over and over to those who would not understand, “They’re nonbinary.”
Then there was @98Luisferx, who yelled in all caps, SHE, repeatedly, trying to win the argument. Spoiler alert: didn’t work. @Cait_Real_ replied, “You don’t have to yell. It’s them tho.” Honestly? I agree.
Then there were players, some of whom @12345paulaw doubled down on the “biological reality” argument, saying: “No actually besides the fact she identifies as nonbinary in reality she is a girl. You can see this based on her face and body.” Which, uh…that’s not how that works, but okay. Meanwhile, @brofattiunsucco answered, “its not even over yet and clove identifies as non-binary not as a female 🤨.”
Then there are those people who just wanted to enjoy watching the mess. So @mohammed_tw_mi tweeted: “Man it’s soo easy to summon these people lmao 😭,” which is actually a fair point. It was a mess being discussed in the replies, but also kind of funny.
But hey, they were not all bickering! Some players are just happy to finally confirm what Clove’s name really is: @whenynywasthere tweeted in Portuguese (translated here): “I ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW THIS THANK YOU VAVA LEAKS & NEWS.” The same energy you have once you learn about your favorite character’s backstory.
By the end of the day, whether you’re in for the lore or just for the drama, it’s one thing: Clove or should I say Ollie, has been living rent-free in everybody’s head. With such a lovely name, can you really blame them?
So yeah. Ollie Baird. Remember that ’cause at this rate, it’s going to be a thing in the VALORANT community for some time. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I really need to rewatch Clove’s trailer to see if I can spot some hidden Ollie reference. BRB.
