Naughty Dog had dropped these major backstage retrospectives on one of the hardest moments to put in The Last of Us Part II: that insane theatrical cliffhanger where we all just screamed at the screen! The narrative lead Halley Gross walked us through how this story comes to this climax and then offered a newer perspective on Ellie’s cruel journey: the remaster is out there for PS5 and PC and the rest of us can well go murking out in 4K.
Some actually think a re-release at this time is really tacky. Some gamers have cast doubts over Naughty Dog remastering a game barely four years old. Ahmad literally laughed out loud, saying, “Remastered for a game that was released 2020 🤣🤣!!?” That really kept the pot boiling within the gamer community whereas David Chittick countered, “No one is forcing you to buy it, so stop whining about it.”
I’d drop an electricity bolt into that theater scene. That’s where Ellie’s wrath is unleashed to its maximum degree, and the game makes you really contemplate the cost attached to the journey of a revenge. But some didn’t appreciate the pacing in the first place: Diego35SHs explained how the momentum shifts totally when you suddenly play as Abby for hours and makes going back to the theater kind of… underwhelming. Ouch.
One of the points in the TV show versus the game argument: Alexandre from France struck right at the heart by saying, “Halley explained in 1 min how the game is superior to the TV show.” Efrenventura agreed and said the show made Ellie’s vengeance feel like “a child playing to vengeance” while the game fully commits to her monstrous transformation. Harsh but fair.
And then we have the crazy takes? So many to choose from. Like Henry, who went fully lawyeristic claiming Joel’s murder was “100% justified” because Abby’s dad attacked first with a scalpel. On the other hand, Boostmetax is “just begging Naughty Dog to ‘please remove the woke.'” Sure thing.
Turning back, however, to the other big question every gamer is asking: Where is The Last of Us Part 3? Bubblejp03 is already thinking 2027 or 2028, while jmich23_ is out there demanding “Factions and Part 3 when?;” and Naughty Dog is keeping everyone hanging. Typical.
Whether you love it or hate it: The Last of Us Part II Remastered has landed, with all sorts of new stuff, including No Return mode. If you have the PS4 edition, this spells an easy $10 upgrade. Not too shabby. But whether you’re game to rejoin Ellie’s tale or skipping it altogether, one thing is for sure: this game can still drip drama from its pores both inside and outside.
So, get your controller or don’t; the talk isn’t about to die down. Honestly? That’s exactly how Naughty Dog wants it.
