Massive Entertainment dropped one cryptic tweet concerning The Division 2, and players ran wild with theory lore. The tweet was a thank-you note to fellow agents for showing up in the Battle for Brooklyn, a tiny tease for the next update, and something entirely new being added to the game. Oh, and then came the snowflake emoji. There you go. The community erupted.
But first, let’s break down what we know. The team is working on the next update-fixes, maybe tweak a few things, and then some new gear or new missions will get introduced. But the big thing is the second part: “starting something entirely new.” And the snowflake emoji? Players are just having fits! Some feel it’s hinting towards dynamic weather. Others are convinced it’s hinting that Survival is making a comeback-a favorite of the first game. A few of them are of course thinking nuclear winter. Just for the sake of going full apocalyptic.
Now imagine a scenario where Massive would be adamant in the past about snow never coming to The Division 2? So is it either they are trolling hard or they had a change of heart? And honestly, given the amount of begging players have done, it wouldn’t shock me if they caved. One player @IDiceyI expressed “seasonal weather changes would also freshen the game up a lot.” Not such a bad idea.
Then there’s the Survival 2.0 theory. For those who never got to partake in the first game, Survival was a crazy tough mode where players had to scavenge for gear against the cold, enemies, and the virus itself. It was crazy intense and a lot of brides have been asking for it to come back. @ManUpPlays tweeted “Survival 2.0” with a hype-gif, and honestly? Mood.
Neither is everybody sold about the snow hype. @GrayFoxLtd thinks it is more the ash that would be falling from the Cleaners (those flamethrower maniacs really humiliated the land) burning the landscape to entire heck. Fair. The Division world is not a happy place. Then, @Lord_Elfstone is going doomsday with, “Either that’s snow or nuclear fallout.” Cheerful.
The whole Division 2 discussion has to include at least a fraction of pleading for crossplay. Like, relentlessly. @alecschwek flatly stated, “Please for the love of all that is holy add crossplay 😭😭😭 begging at this point!!!!” And honestly? Same. It’s been out for years—cross-platform play would give it so much second wind.
Then there is the PVP crowd. @Blutwolf94 had thoughts on the Dark Zone, suggesting that PVP just should be removed because it’s impossible to balance. “It’s less rewards and 10x risk,” they said, recounting how they got griefed just trying to farm for raid exotics. Oof.
And then for raid-enthusiasts. @jan_valeck is after new raids with “contaminated bosses and mechanics,” while @plottttwisttt is holding out for the White House Raid. Which, honestly, sounds insane in the best way.
Now for the real kicker is where some just said no to more teasing. @pereiragames21 went full ripcap: “ARE YOU GOING TO ADD SNOW TO THE GAME? WHAT SHIT ATT I WANT KENNER’S MISSION IN LEGENDARY AND LEGENDARY IN BROOKLYN THEY’RE GOING TO PUT SNOW BUT WHAT CRAP”. Which in a somewhat accurate translation would be, “They want snow, but they want harder content, too.” Fair.
But in any case, have they yet found the answer? No. Not really. To say it loosely, Massive said it in a very vague manner, and now all players can do is speculate on what is coming next. Could be snow. Could be Survival. Could be an entirely new game mode. Or knowing Ubisoft, I say it might be something nobody actually saw coming.
What can certainly be said, though, is that the players are so ready for something fresh. Weather changes, crossplay, or a painfully hard survival experience; investor hype is real. But just for now until Massive spills the beans.
For now? Let the theories roll in, agents.
