Terraria’s final update – the 1.4 Patch, also known as Journey’s End – received a trailer at this year’s E3, with a release date slated to be late 2019. Re-Logic has announced the update will now be pushed back into 2020.

As stated in their State of the Game press release for November, Re-Logic stated: “We have some news to share this month that may be disappointing to some, but we hope that the explanation and rationale will make sense – we have made the tough call to push the Journey’s End release date into 2020.”

As Terraria’s final release, the team over at Re-Logic are keen to get the update right, as it really is the final update this time. Rather than cram for the last few months and potentially leave a lot of stuff out of the game, they’re going to take their time to make sure everything is included in Journey’s End.

Journey’s End looks to be another truly expansive update to Terraria. Hinted at in the trailer are over 1000 new items, new bosses, new cosmetics, a new ‘Master’ mode to challenge the Terraria speedrunners, and plenty more additional content. You can even create a mini-golf course, because why not?

Terraria has received hundreds of free content updates over the years which has created an active and loyal community. I’ve played over 200 hours of Terraria and bought the game for less than 5 dollars on a Summer sale a few years ago – the value for money inside Terraria is unreal.

Re-Logics updates are consistently high-quality. While it might take a while for the updates to be released, Terraria is a good example of how giving studios time to flesh out their game provides a quality experience without bugs and crashes. This year alone Animal Crossing has been pushed back by Nintendo, while other games probably should have gone through more rigorous testing…looking at you Red Dead Redemption II.

Unfortunately, Journey’s End is supposedly Re-Logic’s last update to the game. While they’ve suggested that they were going to stop updating Terraria a few times over the years, the updates have kept coming. However, the studio seems quite clear this time around that there will not be a Terraria 1.5: The Return.

Edit: it has now been announced that Terraria Journey’s End Update 1.4 will launch on 16th May 2020.
