Indie publisher Team17 has announced its partnership with Soul Survivor Games to release the cult management sim Honey, I Joined a Cult. In the 190s game, players have to create, operate, and grow their cult to recruit as many people as possible. Some of the tasks range from deciding on the cult’s symbols to designing the compound.

The player has a lot of work ahead of the. One of the most important key features is maintaining and growing the cult’s influence. Players have to recruit followers and maintain a smooth operation. Followers need a reason why they should stay in the cult, so players will have to keep them entertained and happy.

There are base-building elements to the game. Players have to build the game from the ground up, from designing the layout of the compound to living spaces, and the “Hypno chambers.”

Players can completely customize their cults, from the focus of worship, tech tree, and unlocking additional missions as the game progresses. There are also customization options like a weird uniform and imposing hat that will make other cults jealous.

While general maintenance and base building is important in Honey, I Joined a Cult; there are plenty of missions to complete. These missions are essential to unlocking resources and fulfilling the leader’s demands. An upset leader may take their unhappiness out on the followers.

Outside influences threaten to take down the cult for good. They include nosey journalists trying to expose players’ hard work, oppressive government bodies, and laws, plus rival cults trying to steal followers.

Some outside influences are important. Players will need to recruit wealthy and influential members to raise funds to grow their cult. Making money is an important part of the game to create a successful cult everyone will want to join.

Sole Survivor Games is a UK-based game developer. Their upcoming game has been in progress since at least mid-2018. The developer has continued to roll out new updates in anticipation of its release in the near future.

Team17 has previously released unique simulator games, such as the prison-themed The Escapists and life simulators My Time in Portia.

Honey, I Joined a Cult will be released on PC via Steam in the future. There is no set release date, and the window only states, “Coming Soonish.”
