Street Fighter returns to the Fortnite Item Shop, sending the playerbase into a frenzy of exultation and frustration. Again, the famous skins from the fighting game were being dropped into the Shop for the players to dress up as their respective warriors: Ryu, Chun-Li, and Cammy. Reactions, as ever, ranged in spectrum from hype to salty to outright crazy.
The official Fortnite account shot their own clunky little tweet: “Select your fighter and tell a friend!” The responses, however: Waves of excitement came rolling in, and Wave Prince was torn between buying Chun-Li or Cammy but simply lacked the funds for both. “Guys, help a brother out?” with a careful display of their dilemma, with only 2,500 V-Bucks to spare! However, others like JordyVsTheWorld decided to throw in their own incineration: “No one will care about them in a few days.” Ouch!
Gatekeeping it all. Some of these old-school players are mad that the skins aren’t “exclusive” anymore, while others, like KingTaterSupreme, are calling them out: “Gatekeeping skins is cringe,” arguing that Street Fighter collabs aren’t even OG compared to Chapter 1 Fortnite classics. The argument continues, with PhantomGamer throwing in some fuel: “Chapter 1 is OG, Street Fighter isn’t.”
Others aren’t fighting over the skins but rather fighting the game itself. Lil Xtra let loose: “Can y’all fix the servers? I’m on 50ms in-game when it says I should have 8…” And CALL_ME_JOSH28? They’re just tired of ranked full of “people running around as fucking monsters.” Very relatable.
Would it be any other Fortnite update if there wasn’t a conspiracy theory from some of the player base? Cum lord (I’m not making this up) accused verified accounts of “baiting” players with fake giveaways: “They have no intentions of actually gifting anyone anything,” he warned. luis67622176 seems to want Naruto back in the shop, uttering a desperate, “Realese Naruto back in the item shop” into the void.
Let’s not forget these scattered gems, such as Romcom_LZ’s truly baffling Ryu fanfiction: “Ryu is a fighter in the streets and a fighter in the sheets. He fought his friends for trying to get him help. He has a fighting problem.” What??
