Marvel’s Spider-Man was a major triumphant moment for Sony, creating an instant classic that was beloved by millions.

The PlayStation 4 exclusive title was compared in terms of quality with the Batman Arkham games, which speaks volumes about its popularity. For years now, Arkham has been the gold standard for super hero gaming. But now, Marvel’s Spider-Man is in that conversation.

It was so beloved that Sony decided to create a remaster for the PlayStation 5, upping the ante in terms of the title’s visuals and gameplay.

And apparently there’s going to be one other rather substantial change.

The character of Peter Parker, Spider-Man himself, has been completely redesigned, complete with a new face actor that more closely resembles actor Tom Holland, from the Spider-Man movies.

Sony showed this redesign of the character off in a special scene from the game, which you can view in the player above.

This is a pivotal scene in the game’s story, in which Doctor Octavius dons his iconic octopus arms for the first time. It was truly a geek out moment for a lot of long-time Spidey fans who know all too well what this development is going to bring for our hero.

The original face actor for Peter Parker was John Bubniak. He has been replaced on the PlayStation 5 with Ben Jordan. Of course, the voice acting for the role remains the same, with veteran voice actor Yuri Lowenthal continuing to bring the web slinger to life in a truly iconic performance.

“In order to bring the best performances to players with our next-generation Marvel’s Spider-Man games, we have recast the face of Peter Parker,” Sony said on the official PlayStation Blog. “We loved working with John Bubniak on the original game; however, to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture, we have cast Ben Jordan to be the face model for Peter Parker on the PS5 console. He looks incredible in-game, and Yuri’s moving performances take on a new life.”

The company is claiming it was a move made to better match Yuri’s acting, however this is about as close to Tom Holland’s face as you can get without having to pay the Spider-Man movie star likeness rights.

The team at Insomniac Games have added some more goodness to the original, enhancing the environments of New York City to be even more lifelike. The game’s graphics have been upgraded with a Performance Mode, which will play at a higher 60fps frame rate.

So, what do you think about the new face of Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man? Will you be getting the game on the PlayStation 5? Sound off in the comment section and let us know!
