Compulsion Games offered a great chance for South of Midnight to be 20 percent off on Steam till June 15th, under the Xbox Games Showcase Sale. While a few bought into the discount, there was a louder clamor from the detractors-the biggest being the lack of a physical version.

It was a very straightforward tweet by c: “This isn’t an Xbox, but it IS a sale 💚 Save 20% on South of Midnight on Steam now through June 15th!” Once that was said for the PC gang, the replies quickly descended into a mix of revelry and arbitrary drama.

Now, for the good ones: Players like @gamerlikesanime are delighted to pick this up for their Steam Deck OLED, @KrendarAdventur stated that it is a “fun game,” and @402WrestlingFan declared it “damn good.” @kingkeelay also urged anyone yet to experience the game to play it immediately.

Then, there was the other side. @Robo_Finni said quite plainly: if there’s no physical edition, no money from me! They weren’t the only ones. @escritrasher had been hoping for a full physical edition on PS5 just so they could place it in their collection. @Leonardos5, on the other hand, made a joke about paying full price on PS5 later, and @NextGenNero just straightforwardly asked for a PlayStation port to chase that platinum trophy.

That’s where, uh, it started going downhill. @SZemkova13567 called the game “woke crap,” only to get into a spirited exchange with @flamegirl71394, who defended the game and its themes of abuse, grief, and loss. The argument descended into name-calling and accusations of poor writing—yikes.

Some requests tended to stay on the lighthearted side, like @MarxLarue begging for a Crouton plush (who wouldn’t?), while others, like @tim818180, started hurling unjustified insults at the protagonist. Not cool, dude.

What’s the moral here? South of Midnight gets a lot of love from those who have played it, but the digital-only approach is alienating some fans. Nice discount aside, these guys might want to consider going physical, or at least respond to the PS5 plea, to keep that hype train chugging.

Now would be a great time to pick it up if you’ve been sitting on the fence. One small caveat: steer clear of the Twitter replies unless you really want some chaos.
