On Tuesday, Sony and Naughty Dog finally revealed the release date for The Last of Us Part II, which is currently scheduled to come to the PlayStation 4 on February 21. In addition to the release date reveal, Naughty Dog also held a private press event where members of the media played through two new levels in the highly anticipated sequel.

After the event, Sony shared more details about The Last of Us Part II, and they also showed a bit of new gameplay from the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive. If you missed the new gameplay reveal, you can check it out in the video below.

Over on PlayStation’s official blog, the new gameplay details for The Last of Us Part II were revealed, as well as some details regarding the two levels that the media played through during the recent behind closed doors event.

The first section of The Last of Us Part II’s new gameplay is set in Jackson, Wyoming, which is where Joel and Ellie have been staying since the conclusion of the first game. Essentially, Ellie’s job is to patrol the abandoned sections of the snowy, post-apocalyptic town, as she searches for food, supplies, and infected who are roaming around in the area.

The second section of the demo takes place in Seattle, Washington, which, as you’d probably expect, is a very green, overgrown, rainy area. Since releasing footage of the demo, Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog’s creative director, has said that the Jackson, Wyoming section is from early in the game, while the section that’s based in Seattle, Washington is from much later.

Also on Sony’s blog, the new gameplay details for The Last of Us Part II were listed, and you can check them out below.

  • Ellie can now jump to reach higher vantage points or cross gaps.
  • Dodge – Ellie will be able to use her quickness to her advantage with the new dodge feature, as she’ll be able to duck and weave out of the way of close-quarter attacks.
  • Prone and Crawl – Players can now go prone as the game’s main protagonist. This will help Ellie stay hidden away from patroling enemies.
  • Guard Dogs – During the Seattle section of the game, human NPCs will patrol areas with guard dogs who will be able to sniff Ellie out.
  • New Infected – Shamblers are described as “walking pustule-clusters that spray gaseous acid when they get near you and take a ton of damage.” Once they’re defeated, they will explode with violent force.
  • Crafting Silencers – Ellie can now craft silencers for her weapons.

It’ll probably be a few months until we hear more about The Last of Us Part II, as Sony and Naughty Dog probably don’t want to reveal too much more about the upcoming title before it hits the PS4 on February 21.
