Edenia lost 10 straight Mortal Kombat tournaments to Shao Khan, and the evil emperor conquered the realm, remaking it into Outworld. Khan took Sindel as his wife and adopted Kitana shortly thereafter. Eventually, Sindel died. When the warriors of Earthrealm defeat both the sorcerer Shang Tsung and Shao Khan himself, a plot is enacted to forcibly take control of Earthrealm, using Sindel as the main instrument of the conquest. The queen is resurrected on Earth, which means that Shao Khan is able to cross the portal into Earthrealm in order to claim her. Sindel serves Khan throughout the series, which often puts her at odds with her daughter Kitana and the warriors of Earthrealm who follow Raiden.
