Sega has announced the official launch date of the upcoming mobile game Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020. The game was previously announced for release at the end of Spring.

The new game will not only combine the upcoming Olympics to be held in Tokyo later this year but also the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog series anniversary next year.

“Compete in a variety of Olympic events across a wide range of Stages! Experience the newest additions to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020! Test your skills with challenging EX Stages and overcome them using Sonic and his friends!” states the official website.

The game stars Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends. They have all traveled to Tokyo to celebrate the Olympic Games, only to discover that Dr. Eggman has taken over the city. They must uncover his plans and save the city. As players enjoy the game, they will unlock new Olympic events as they work to stop Dr. Eggman from canceling the Olympics.

The official website also lists some of the events that will be featured in the game. The events include Sport Climbing, Karate, Hammer Throw, Archery, Badminton, BMX, Javelin Throw, and more.

Besides from Olympic events, there are also mini-games like Tokyo Skytree Jump, Claw Game, and Souvenir Search.

Pre-registration is available now and has many awards. Players can register through either the Play Store or App Store. When the game has been released, gamers will receive a notification on their phone to download the game.

Sega has listed the pre-registration rewards on their website. The more players that register, the more rewards that will be distributed to everyone.

At 100,000 pre-registrations, everyone will receive the “Ocean View” background music from Team Sonic Racing. At 300,000 pre-registrations, everyone will receive training points, while at 500,000 pre-registrations, everyone will receive a badge of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 mascot Miraitowa. After these milestones are achieved, players can gain more training points.

The game is free to play but will include some in-app purchases to access all game content.

Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 will be available to players on both iOS and Android devices. The game will launch just before the big event later this year.

Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 is scheduled to be released on May 7, 2020.
