Developers and publishers may work with digital media, but many games continue to be released physically. Often, gamers want to have a physical copy of games in case they need to reinstall the game, or they want to own a limited edition.

SEGA has announced that it are taking steps to continue releasing physical products but in a more environmentally-friendly way.

SEGA announced on social media that all future physical releases of PC games would be in fully recyclable packaging.

The first game that will be in the new recyclable packaging is Creative Assembly’s Total War: ROME II – Enemy at the Gates Edition. The game will come with three discs and a booklet all contained inside a three panel, 100% recycled cardboard sleeve. The artwork is brand new and was created by painter Marius Kozik.

The beautiful artwork is printed with vegetable and water-based ink. All of the contents are enclosed within the recyclable shrink wrap.

Total War: ROME II – Enemy at the Gates Edition is considered the “definitive edition of ROME II” and contains the base game plus expansion packs.

The blog description for the game states, “The award-winning PC strategy game. At its heart lies the Grand Campaign, an epic campaign map that stretches from the tip of Scotland to the sands of North Africa; from the coast of Portugal to the Middle East. Beginning in the year 272BC, players pick a famous faction of the ancient world and guide it towards domination. ROME II also supports co-op campaign multiplayer and head-to-head multiplayer battles.”

The campaign expansion packs included are The Imperator Augustus Campaign Expansion Pack, The Hannibal at the Gates Campaign Expansion Pack, and The Empire Divided Campaign Expansion Pack.

The new collection also includes all of the latest updates and DLC. This includes The Power & Politics Update plus The Ancestral Update.

Enemy at the Gates also contains all of the free features previously released for the game, including patches, game balances, Twitch integration, touchscreen capabilities, and MAC compatibility.

Since all of the content is included within the three CDs, players won’t have to wait for any additional downloads to begin playing the game.

Total War: ROME II – Enemy at the Gates Edition is out now for PC.
