Apex Legends debuted in February 2019 with a cast of 8 different characters, or Legends, to choose between. Each with their own, unique abilities, the purpose of the game is to compile a team of three different Legends to beat out the rest and win the game. Since then, Respawn Entertainment has introduced one other Legend, making the current total nine – but there’s a new one on the horizon.
Apex just released the Legendary Hunt Event which includes tons of new challenges, an upcoming double XP weekend, and even a special gaming queue for the best players on the game. Shortly following this, the official Apex Legends twitter page reminded their followers about the live event taking place with EA Play on June 8th, adding, “Don’t forget to mark your calendars. It’s sure to be…electrifying.”

Accompanying the tweet is a GIF that flashes to a character’s gloved hands generating electricity between them. While this is the first time Apex has officially teased anything about a new Legend, it’s not the first time we’ve heard about this shocking character.
For months, the name “Wattson” has been buzzing around the Apex Legends community, initially supported by data that players were pulling from the game hinting at the character. A month ago, a Reddit post by the Respawn Community Manager gave players confirmation that Season 2 would introduce several things, including a new Legend.
Since then, there has been a multitude of leaks surrounding Wattson, primarily focused on the abilities that she will bring to King’s Canyon. Based on what has been released directly from Apex Legends and the data discovered through various sources around the Internet, Wattson is gearing up to electrify gameplay with lightning-based skills. While not everything about her abilities is completely clear, by filing through game coding, it was leaked that her ultimate is called “tesla trap,” which would make her the second Legend with a trapping ability.
On May 12th, professional gamer and Twitch streamer, Michael Grzesiek, better known online as Shroud, shared his thoughts on Wattson. Early in the year, Shroud was asked by Apex Legends to test out some new features and characters before they were released to the public. When asked if he liked playing as Wattson by a viewer, Shroud responded with, “No, I hated it…I didn’t hate it. I just didn’t like it, that’s all. It’s like me playing Caustic. I don’t hate him, I just don’t like him.”
While Shroud might not be a huge fan of the 10th Legend coming to Apex Legends, the electrifying character has continued to generate a lot of excitement, and it shouldn’t be too long before players can test Wattson out for themselves.
