The additional content drop has been made available for Red Dead Online players from Rockstar, and there’s a little something for everyone if you are into ponchos and patriotism. The studio announced that just logging in anytime this month will get you the Rebellion Poncho, along with an array of red, white, and blue prizes for Naturalist-themed challenge completions.
So, what can one make out of these rewards? Well, the studio has kept mum about the finer details, but the tweet does hint that players might need to perform some specific Naturalist-related tasks to earn those patriotic goodies. Considering it’s your full summer and Independence Day was just celebrated a week ago, it definitely fits the vibes.
And, of course, the announcement, with the announcement topic freshly delivered, was met with equally spicy reactions from the community. A few players, including Star Peeler, took this opportunity to beg the studio for those illusive horse customization options: “Hey I know you don’t update the game anymore but I was wondering if we could maybe get a new horse coat or some new manes and tails.” Ouch.
Vadim Wright was out there living: “Yasss, finally some patriotic cowboy swag! 🤠🇺🇸 Giddy up!” Then there was Fat Father who took a more serious stance: “Add things to buy. Property, weapons, more horse stalls, ability cards… This game is way better than GTA. Please do something with it.”
Then come the hopefuls for RDR3. One gave a shoutout for a “Red Dead Redemption 3 trailer” while another was asking, “When’s the next Red Dead coming?” You can imagine Rockstar was having none of that.
Then there’s an international vibe—the Turkish players, led by Sait (aka THE ALTERS VEKİLİ), were pouring in with pleas, “Hear the voice of Turkish players. Please add Turkish to the game.”
Maybe the update is not the binbuster some had wished it would be. But for the freebies that come along with it, no one will stand in their way. And by virtue of Rockstar’s name, players are already glad that there is something genuinely shiny and new in Red Dead Online.
So, whoever has been sleeping on RDO, there is arguably never a better time to dust off the cowboy boots for the Rebellion Poncho… Red, white, and blue swag is up too. However, for fissures in gameplay, don’t hold your breath—It’s Rockstar, anyway.
For the hope of a next-gen upgrade still alive, Dani from focustop10 Tweeted, “Waiting RDR 2 #PS5 and #PS5Pro version,” so you know there’s at least a handful hoping.
At the end of the day, these little patches from Rockstar are all that is keeping Red Dead Online alive. Whether that’s going to be sufficient to keep players interested in the long term… well, that’s subject to opinion. But hey, the poncho looks pretty cool. Maybe.
(Unless you ask AxelMagne, who straight-up replied, “It doesn’t look like a poncho.” That is a tough crowd.)
