Rockstar Games has issued a Red Dead Online update that center around snapping wildlife pictures, accompanied by a few special bonuses. Players now earn triple RDO$ and XP for Sample Sales and double RDO$ and XP for Wildlife Photography missions. XP is also doubled for Legendary Animal Sighting Missions. From the sounds of it, it’s a treat for all virtual nature lovers! How the community has reacted? Well, those reactions have been…mixed.

Now, let’s have one thing on the plus side. An opportunity, really, for any who would toss their frontier photography hat up and live the dream. The update sees players snapping wildlife pictures of all sorts: be that majestic elk or on-the-edge-of-your-seat grizzly bear action. With these payouts, cashing big with XP has never been easier.

The problem has largely been, while Rockstar seems to be pushing this update hard, much player population… well, they’re not exactly excited about it. The responses to the announcement tweet have seen a wild amalgamation of joyous and frustrated demands. Then there’s the hype—like Hayden Lamon who tweeted, “Rockstar actually showing RDR some love recently.” Others? Not so much.

Then we have the sarcastic act of summerysteam96: “So EXCITED to take part in the worst role in the game.” Ouch. Then IFOXTERRTORY just kept it loud and simple: “ADD A FUCKING DLC.”

Then there’s the ever-present reiteration: GTA. Every time Rockstar drops an RDR-type announcement, the GTA demands flood the comments. Turkish players are begging for localization (shoutout to scorcherod and dertliserce), while others are straight up asking for news on GTA 6. Another player, gaby8292, even lobbied, “We need that gta4 port on new gen plss.” I mean, come on, let RDO breathe for a bit.

One of the other complaints is glitches. Killer_Clown4191 nailed that one by cracking open the Trader glitches: “Rockstar you going fix the glitch for resupplying for the Trader?” Clearly, some want new content, but only after the stuff already out works as intended.

The usual cacophony rolls on. BravoVImauri posted a clip: a horse…uh…relieving itself on a tied-up NPC and captioned it: “Speaking of cataloging wild life in all its glory here’s a horse shitting on an npc I tied up.” Classic Red Dead Online moment.

And what is the verdict? The update is cool for those into the Naturalist, but a lot of players feel like Rockstar is snubbing bigger issues—or just keeping GTA too much in the limelight. Whether you’re here for that wildlife photography or just waiting for the next big RDO expansion, one thing’s for sure: the Red Dead community is as passionate (and as short of success) in chaos as ever.

Go on, grab your camera, hunt some legendary animals, and try and not get mauled! Or, in the alternative, wait like everyone else for the next GTA 6 trailer.
