In an update released yesterday, the devlopment team announced that they are changing the launch date. “We’re now targeting next year for release. We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible.” reads the update on their fig.co devlopment page.

It is understandable why they are delaying the game as the last few years have been riddled with launches from big-name devlopment companies that should have waited a little longer. Fans are disappointed but very understanding on their devlopment page as they are commenting supportive feelings to help the team continue on their work.

The original game of the Psychonaut followed the story of a young psychic named Razputin who embarks on a quest to join an elite group of psychic secret agents. He runs away from the circus and breaks into their training facility to prove himself. As he begins his training by delving into the consciousnesses of his tutors and those around him, he starts to notice that not everything is as it seems.

He embarks into a quest as he travels through a variety of levels set inside the minds of misfits, monsters, and madmen. He must find the truth without losing his mind. The original game ends on a cliffhanger with the promise of more content, and so Psychonauts 2 was born to follow up on the original story.

In the sequel, Eaz realizes his dream and visits the Psychonauts Headquarters but quickly discovers it is not the perfect place he imagined it to be. There is a new hub world available with new mental worlds for Raz to peek inside the minds of many different characters. These people need help to combat their inner demons and unravel their deep-seated emotional issues.

Raz hones in his secret agent PSI-abilities and uses them to solve mysteries and uncover the evil plot that is right in front of his eyes. The game developers have worked hard at this project with it dating back to the year 2000 where Tim Schafer and his friends formed Double Fine Productions.

With a die-hard fanbase backing the project the eventual release of this game will be inevitable. The extra time helps fans guarantee that the developers will create the sequel that they all are hoping for. The game will be released on all major platforms, so keep your eyes open for this interesting title.
