An in-depth game introduction video just dropped by BANDAI NAMCO outlining what to expect for the upcoming game Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. The manga series Dragon Ball and its adaptation Dragon Ball Z, among others, is an immensely popular story about a group of heroes protecting planet Earth.

There have been countless video games released in the Dragon Ball universe, dating back to 1986’s Dragon Ball: Dragon Daihikyō. BANDAI NAMCO is branding Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot as the most extensive retelling of the famous anime Dragon Ball Z (DBZ).

Goku is the playable protagonist of this story, which makes sense considering the title is a nod to his Saiyan name Kakarot. Players will relive the entire anime storyline, starting with the beloved Raditz saga.

One of the most fascinating things revealed for diehard fans is the added layers to the well-known storyline.

There are never-before seen moments and interactions throughout the game. With Goku as the focal point for players, the game builds on the wide-ranging backstory of the anime. Many moments that were not part of the anime will come to life in the video game.

The game introduction video shows a clip of Goku interacting with Nam, someone he fights during the Tournament Saga of Dragon Ball. Interestingly, Nam is shown only once in the Dragon Ball Z anime, when he is murdered by Majin Buu and later revived by Porunga. Goku and Nam never actually communicate within the DBZ anime.

These kinds of Easter eggs and fan service will be sprinkled in throughout the campaign. Unique character interactions are something every hardcore fan can look forward to.

Another point the video highlights is the realness of the villain encounters throughout the game. The power level of Goku’s foes will mimic the level it is in the anime. For example, Raditz is much stronger than Goku during their battle in the anime, and the game depicts this. Goku must enlist the help of his allies and train diligently to take on these threats.

This game has all the potential to be a nostalgic journey, fused with new adventure, that fans can sink their teeth into.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s release date is penciled in for January 17, 2020, for XBOX, PC, and Play Station 4. Get ready to hop onto the Flying Nimbus and cruise into battle. Just make sure you get home before Chi-Chi gets worried!
