It was pretty unheard of for Sony to put two very hotly awaited titles on a timed trial: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Civilization VII. The announcement came straight from the official PlayStation Twitter account, so it understandably stirred a healthy mix of excitement and some frustration. People were either thrilled by the offer or annoyed at the restrictions placed on them.
Well, what precisely is this? Timed trials for PlayStation Plus Premium members allow one to sample these games before shelling out their hard-earned cash. The truly relentless and unforgiving medieval RPG sequel Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Civilization VII sure do eat up time; hence the contention regarding the trial duration.
Players such as @bbyboidlo really brought out the ironic situation of giving only two hours for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which is filled to the brim with dialogue and slow-burn storytelling. “Only 2 hours for KCD2 when it’s all dialogues in its first hours smh,” were the words on Twitter from this player. Others like @Ugur_Gulerr, who commented before, couldn’t stop laughing at Sony giving a measly two hours of trials to games that they claim take upwards of 400 hours.
Many were thrilled. “Finally getting a chance to dive into these. Curious which game others are spending more time on and why,” said @aleromerogarc. On a different note, @Nexa_Cards kept it real with “Level up time!”
This reignited the debate on trials versus good old demos. “@lovenkrandz,” wrote, “Back in olden days a demo wasn’t 3 hours, it was a mini level or a game with 1 track and 3 cars, that’s why they were free.” Meanwhile, @theonlyPook wants game trials eliminated: “Release downloadable demos again, get rid of ‘game trials’ if you subscribe to premium.”
Then you have the classic PlayStation drama: @GoreBrutal44614 was complaining about server issues while @dushfernando92 lashed out at both Sony and Nintendo, saying, “As someone who used to love both Sony and Nintendo games over the decades, I hope they both fall at one point because of their greediness.” Ugh.
Still, as it can be seen, the trials are giving players a taste of two very distinct, though considerably massive, games. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II promises to have a deeper and more immersive experience in a medieval world, while Civilization VII is set to once again take the reigns of the turn-based strategy genre.
For a PlayStation Plus Premium member, it is at least worth seeing what it is all about. Either way, ticking two hours could very well either: hook you in or just give you a mere tease.
Time is now ticking!
Jump straight into downloading either if you have Premium and see if one or both of these games earn a permanent spot in your collection! But hey, don’t come crying to us if you lost a couple of days staring at the screen- Civilization syndrome until-“one more turn” is clogged, and Kingdom Come is an awkward title to rush through. Happy gaming, and I hope the lag stays away from your trials!
