It looks like some bite-y stuff here, the usual dramatics were naturally birthed in this fandom-and, no, it is not about a new hero or a balance patch. Gorgeous incidents of much more drama unfolded over with this fake book titled “Chasing Niran,” which depicted Mercy, Genji, and Lifeweaver in what appeared to be a royal love triangle. The official Overwatch account dropped the image with the caption: “Two Supports. One heart that needs healing. ❤️✨” and all hell broke loose.

The fan commented, “Very much NOT canon,” but, really, when has that ever stopped shippers? The comments section is just crazy with Fan theories, cries for more Lifeweaver content, and at least three different factions debating the finer points of Genji’s sexuality. Classic Overwatch Twitter.

“So,” starts a player, with an entire soap hadlle getting ready to open, “After Princess Mercy turned down Genji, Niran consoles him and Genji soon finds himself torn between his love for the blade and his love for Niran. Mercy meanwhile gets herself ‘captured’ by wicked queen Moira.” On a simpler note, another says, “I think the three of them should kiss,” which is really not too bad an idea.

Others said the fanfiction needs to be stopped. “Along with that, the in-game store just opened the ‘Palace Royals Mega Bundle!'” One said, “It’s a bundle of royal skins for Mercy, Genji, and Lifeweaver-but some folks aren’t happy about having to buy the whole thing.” However, another kept complaining, “Why didn’t yall make a bundle for each character? I only wanted the Weaver items and now I either have to buy the whole bundle or everything separately.”

And then the usual chaos erupted on Overwatch Twitter again. The setting-off-the-world-again discussions over Demon Hunter Sombra and the questions about the disappearance of classic mode were stuffed with mentions along the lines of “fix matchmaking”-but really, Lifeweaver took the spotlight-away from Genji at least, if the fan theories are correct.

What is it all about, this “Chasing Niran”? Probably nothing official. But in the hearts of Overwatch players? That is a downright bestseller. And if Blizzard does actually go all the way-which, if we are honest with each other, might already be overdue-then the fan community is more than prepared.

Until then, Palace Royals Mega Bundle is in the shop, and with or without lore, that is doing wonders in laying the foundation for some pretty intense discussions. Just don’t expect the love triangle to ever be confirmed officially anytime soon-though, maybe “not canon” is only a working title for now.
