Since Blizzard casually announced the official date of the new season, the world of games has gone completely crazy. On June 24, the season launches, carrying a splash of glitzy new content, collabs, and gameplay tweaks-though not everybody sees eye to eye on this. So let’s get into it before the storm hits.

Then some big-deal stuff: Some loves finally headed for Sigma, Junkrat, and Zenyatta in Stadium mode-the perfect storm for divisive addition ever since it has come out. Now, there are players that are happy with the changes, while some are not. Oof. One reply said, “As if stadium couldn’t get worse,” while the other gave an “Either add every hero or take the mode away from us” demand.

Then there’s Aatlis, the new Flashpoint map. Flashpoint has been hit-or-miss in enjoyment factor, so a new arena can really stir the pot. Or… it will bomb? Gamers are already side-eyeing it, one sarcastically dubbing it “another map to ban” right alongside Antarctica. Ah, classic Overwatch banter.

Second only to the chatter is the GI Joe crossover. You heard that right. Overwatch 2 is going in collaboration with GI Joe, and the comment section is pure gold. Some player joked, “So like… Cobra Reaper??,” while another begged for a My Little Pony collab next. (Blizzard, take notes.) Meanwhile, Wuyang Hero Trial is screaming-loudly-wuyang, an ecstatic fan tweeted-waving hands-, while others are questioning why their mains (looking at you, Lucio and Zarya) keep getting the cold shoulder.

Definitely one not celebrating this season: “Mid AF season,” one voice lamented; “more Juno Kiriko Mercy and Widow skins” are a filler worthy of mockery. Another dragged Blizzard for releasing “promised content years ago” only after competition heated up. Harsh? Maybe. But Overwatch players do not mince any words.

Then the drama started breaking loose in the replies-Tank mains are going to war over role balances; D.Va one-tricks have been flexing their Top 500; and apparently, there still seems to be some salty ones over PVE getting canned.

So-all in all, will Season 17 deliver? There’s hype, but everything exists in the shadow of skepticism. One thing is for sure, June 24 will be bonkers. Popcorn in hand, sit back, and pray your main gets a skin that isn’t utterly horrible.
