Big midseason update now dropped in Overwatch 2 by Blizzard, and the new content is disturbing the playerbase that are turning chicken-littles. The blog post spills details about Freja at play in Stadium, an awe-inspiring new Mythic weapon skin for Mercy, the Street Fighter 6 collab, and Overwatch Classic returning. Those instant hype moments need some unpacking, so let’s go before this train leaves the station.
Freja walks into Stadium with conflicting reactions. Jake Card and very many others call any such bola shot with slow effects “dumb” and are truly annoyed at yet another form of slow-down in the game. As more players feel that it’s all about chaos or excitement for the game mode, others, like MistahWolfe, can’t stand yet another nerf-heavy patch when some of the changes also feel like a rehash. Oof!
Meanwhile, Mercy’s Mythic Weapon Skin stands in the spotlight, quite literally. The staff comes with a tiny little companion who laughs, that terrible noise, joining in with damage boosts that some players, like Briirouge, adore, while others are begging Blizzard to just give them a mute option. Swanky Tiger quips that the real problem is that Wrecking Ball’s size needs fixing, because “he takes up half the screen.” A good phrase to throw on your resume.
The Street Fighter 6 crossover is a big one as well, but details are sparse. The fans alight with theories about potential crossover skins or special emotes, like that Junker Queen dance emote StrStyler is desperately praying for. Not to mention the returning limelight on Overwatch Classic: ClockMeta says, “Y’all really said ‘here’s everything you’ve ever wanted.'”
However, as with everything, there’s a dark side. While some players—hey, ChvChv00—are witnessing 20-minute queues just to get into a Stadium match, some others—MacDimakim, I was looking in your direction—are rage-quitting because the nerf to Firestrike makes Rein an impossible matchup in some games. And on-going debates about Mythic Weapons? CoreGlacia wants to see a Roadhog mythic hook, while Hawnu is wondering why one for Mercy has never gotten a proper showcase video like all the others.
Whatever, this one has enough content to keep you occupied for quite a while. Whether you’re here for the Freja chaos, Mercy and that adorably weird skin of hers, or for the nostalgia blast of Overwatch Classic, there are treats to be had in abundance for everybody. If only Blizzard could throw in that mute option for this hamster…
