Thunder have risen. Their long-awaited first NBA championship gleams on the horizon as the world flips out in excitement over this feat. Having been Thoroughly rebuilt on the basis of near-misses and the nurturing of young talent in so many chaotically procedural animal phases of talent development, Thunder has finally managed to take flight to the loftier altitudinous pinnacles of the league, and the fandom is buzzing!

The official account of NBA 2K on Twitter had made public the fabulously energizing piece celebrating that historic win of the Thunder. While down here, the real-life celebrations are just in their infancy, the thudding applause from the virtual one is already demanding some giveaways. The replies? Totally insane!

Locker codes, who cares! Every other comment is somebody yelling at 2K for a free in-game reward for the gigantic win of the Thunder. Simply put, one user went all blunt saying, “Drop the locker code bitch.” Another was even clearer, calling for “Give us invincible Shai now,” referring to Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is essentially the face of this new lift of the franchise. Honestly, I would say it is the least you would want- If your team just won a ring, shouldn’t you get a few digital goodies?

But not everybody’s begging; the visionaries are here even before. “NBA 2K26 cover athlete… SGA,” another fan predicted-it’s hard to disagree. Provided Shai keeps this disruption up, he will most definitely be in the mix for the cover of next year’s title. Now, there are those debating all-time for Thunder, ranking SGA (98), Kevin Durant (97), and Russell Westbrook (95) as the top three for this franchise. That argument is likely to go on forever.

Cue the drama. Some fans have been calling out the “bandwagon” crowd and being met with responses like, “I been with them since u was a little kid.” Classic sports rage gatekeeping – nothing new there. Meanwhile, some are throwing shade on the Thunder’s victory as an “asterisk title” (whatever that is supposed to mean). But hey, a chip is a chip, and OKC is loud about it.

We just cannot forget the hilarious roast of NBA 2K‘s player model: Someone declared the game’s face scan for Chet Holmgren and another player looked like “2 family members made him.” Ouch! 2K character designs have always been hit and miss, but that one hurt.

What’s next for the Thunder? More celebrations, another parade…and if the fans have their way, lots of love from NBA 2K too. Whether that means locker codes, nods to their cover athlete, or respect to their rating, Oklahoma City is about to give a huge boost to the virtual realm.

For the moment, of course, that matters in real life: the Thunder have won an NBA title. And however one may feel about it, that’s history being made.
