The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has had many different antagonists throughout the franchise’s history, but one of the most iconic adversaries remains to be Dark Link. Dark Link appears throughout the franchise across multiple games, existing as Link’s foil. For veteran fans, they’ll be happy to know that a costume emulating Dark Link is available to obtain in BOTW.
Dark Link, the personification of Link’s inner demons, physically embodies that concept. He has white, ghostly hair, dark black clothes, and red glowing eyes. In order to get the Dark series armor, you’ll have to have some patience as certain parts of the steps to obtain it aren’t immediately available.
First things first, you’ll need to obtain and complete the quest, “A Shady Customer”. You’ll have to travel to the East Akkala Stable and speak to an NPC there by the name of Hoz; he’ll provide you with the quest.
You’ll be required to find and snap a picture of the mysterious individual who’s recently been spotted at Skull Lake. Skull Lake is not hard to find, it’s found in the upper right corner of the map, and shaped exactly like a skull.
Once you get there, you’ll be able to find a mysterious person standing in the left eye, called Kilton. Use a bit of stealth and snap a photo of him from afar with your Sheikah tablet. Then you’ll just need to show it to Hoz at Akkala Stable to complete the quest.
From here, Kilton will be available as a vendor. His inventory will be pretty empty at first, but as you complete Divine Beast Dungeons, you’ll get access to more and more of his inventory.
Unfortunately, you will have to beat all 4 of the Divine Beasts before the Dark Link outfit will be available for purchase, so if you’ve been putting off beating the main story, you’ll have to progress a bit.
Speaking of purchasing, all items and gear that Kilton sells uses a special currency called Mon. In order to obtain Mon, you can speak to Kilton to convert monster parts to the special currency. Try not to spend all of your Mon before you get the Dark Link armor.
This is because the Dark series armor requires a total of 3,997 in total, requiring a huge sum of monster parts to fully satisfy. You can get this by killing monsters as per usual, but the best way is reportedly killing lynels.
The Dark series doesn’t actually provide much to the player other than the Night Speed Up perk, making you faster at night. It also has a relatively low armor class that can’t be improved by the Great Fairies. However, it is a unique and memorable armor set, so it’s still well worth the effort to obtain it.
