Bethesda’s “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered” has been out for quite a while now, but the performance of the game has been a bone of contention among players. Even the starter tips given by PlayStation for those hoping to venture into Cyrodiil this weekend were met with a barrage of complaints on the technical state of the game.

And that went into immediate name-calling over performance issues. jacobbettes_clover sarcastically suggested that the first tip should be “wait for more performance patches,” followed by “still wait for performance patches,” and finally, “wait for patches.” Sie lamented the stutters on PS4 Pro as they induced headaches and forced him to quit completely. It has never been a few games’ forte to conduct benchmarks; cebanauskes can’t say that it’s any better on the PS5-in fact, there have been documented episodes of stutters and massive FPS drops on the more powerful hardware.

Writer Charlie Burns retorted without holding back: “A mess,” listing crashes and bugs that worsened as you proceeded, even regretting not getting a refund. MarkRobbz, who was considering purchasing the remaster after enjoying Skyrim, received a clear cut warning from Charlie: “I honestly wish I had waited.”

In comes the whole physical versus digital argument. JediDNA seemed pretty firm on that, declaring, “No physical, no buy!” while Shamrokh00 would actually like “‘REAL’ physical without having to use an online account.” The entirety of the argument soon dived into whether digital is worth it at all, with some pointing out that you can’t play offline and that sales might not always make digital cheaper.

That said, a few old-timers believe the game has aged well, chimed in Paavali Henki, while other users fondly reminisced about the soundtrack-_nabildada is backing Harvest Dawn as “the most goated soundtrack of all time.” ZackWyrmblood proclaimed unequivocally to the loudest, “nightblade master race,” while aleromerogarc simply said, “Oblivion still holds up.”

But overwhelmingly, it’s the “Fix it” army. forknoses said: “Not until it’s patched, shoddy as fuck.” Another anonymous one declared: “This thing needs to go off the store until it’s fixed.”

So there is this: While a handful are having fun nostalgically going back to Cyrodiil, the great majority of players are just waiting-they’re waiting for patches, they’re waiting for fixes, and in some cases, they’re waiting for their refund. With such an outpouring of disappointment, maybe Bethesda and PlayStation will want to give the attention to this sooner than later.

And hey, just in case you are unsure, maybe hold back as Charlie said. Or just stay away from the mudcrabs–PIN got that right.
