Nintendo has at last showered Mario Kart with everything fans have been wishing for. Until July 23 at 6 PM PT, MyNintendo Platinum Points can be used to redeem a selection of icons from Mario Kart World. And here’s the kicker: new elements will be running through the week forevermore, so boredom shall never lay a finger upon you. An official announcement was disclosed via Nintendo’s Twitter account, and the gaming community has already gone on a roller coaster.
But let’s just get real here; not all of them are overjoyed with the news. Some wishfully playful few are begging for themes and main menu tunes all over again, just like what 3DS had; some just bitter because others own a Switch already. One user went, “I would if I had a Switch.” Mood! Another one just plainly told them: “Who gives a crap about icons when we want themes?” To be fair, though.
The icons have loads of characters that the fans adore: Daisy, Boo, and Birdo-yes, they’re back together and yes, it’s a mess. In internet time, of course, they’re complaining: “No Hammer Bro icon?!” Another one said, “WHERE’S THE COW CUSTOM ICON?!” Calm down, folks; these are just icons, not the next DLC.
The whole discourse about Mario Kart World versus MK8 Deluxe is still going on because gamers simply can’t resist being bored. Some are making arguments that World is a downgrade because it blatantly copies mechanics from Sonic All-Stars Racing and Crash Tag Team Racing. Some others are like, “Nah, World’s better, fight me,” And honestly? Both are kind of right. World definitely has its own flavor but is blatantly borrowing from other racers.”
Add another layer to that with the ever-so-random Sonic vs. Mario Kart debate that grew like a forest right there. One user claimed that Sonic games “were fun,” while the other clapped back with “Sonic is style over substance.” Meanwhile, another one dropped the wild card: “Nintendo finna mess y’all up,” which… okay.
Though the majority of players are ecstatic about anything new to collect. One fan even called the icons “beautiful,” which is a bit much, but hey, different worlds. So, if you hoard Platinum Points like there’s no tomorrow, now’s the best time to finally use some.
So yeah, let the Switch profile go wild trying to make it Mario Kart-meets-with-everything. But it’s not going to save Nintendo for its bigger faults-absence of themes included. But hey, baby steps, right?
More info can be found on Nintendo’s official site, but the real tea is garnished all over the Twitter answers. You will never be bored with this fanbase.
On the other hand, here’s a little dreidel-wielding indigestion: If you want that Waluigi icon… Then just keep waiting. Nintendo appears to be at war with that guy.
