Cyberpunk 2077 is making a comeback, this time drawing extra attention because of a possible launch on Switch 2. REDstreams will take its viewers through the trials and possibilities of bringing Night City to Nintendo’s newest handheld. The stream takes off on Thursday, June 5th, 17:00 CEST, with experiences shared by Filip Downar, Gameplay Technical Design Expert, and Giovanni De Francesco, Senior Technical Artist.

The community had mixed reactions. Some questioned why porting to Switch 2 was considered more important than developing new content for existing platforms. One bluntly said: “I don’t care about PC, Pro patch or Switch 2, so unless you guys have something that can add anything useful for everyone, I’m really not interested in watching the stream.” An individual by the name of XxRazorxX said CD Projekt Red should work on the New Game Plus before beginning other projects.

The real debate followed the mention of the existence of new DLC. The very first thing from Marcin Momot, the Global Community Director at CDPR, was “We will not be showing any new DLC during the stream – sorry!” at which point hopeful fans started speculating. One said: “They aren’t saying anymore that there are no DLC coming which they did before 2.2.” Johan chimed in: “But you aren’t saying that there won’t be any new DLC like ever, for 2077. I keep in mind that 2077 won’t get any new big DLC, but I still hope so.”

Others are screaming with glee at the potential to play a fully-fledged Cyberpunk 2077 on the go. One extremely excited fan said, “Can’t wait to play your game on the new console.” The matter remains how possible it is from a technical standpoint, while performance holds paramount importance. One suggested that might be working for Steam Deck since it could do 1080p60 but a Switch 2 version could be worse docked.

Also, what does it really tell us? One thing is clear: CD Projekt Red has been seeking ways to support Cyberpunk 2077, but the gaming community remains split. Some think of a Switch 2 port as a nice experiment; others feel that it’s distracting from what they really want, which is more expansions, updates, or maybe even a next-gen Pro patch.

The REDstreams episode offers a rather enticing in-depth look at the technical challenges of porting a big open-world RPG into a handheld. For either a die-hard Switch fan or a die-hard Cyberpunk fan, this is a worthy stream to watch, if only to watch Night City being shoved into your palm.

And, just maybe, legends will come a-brewin’ on a whim in CDPR. Stranger things have happened in Night City.
