Admit it; good Japanese calls scratch off the Switch 2. Rumour has it that it would be bundled or discounted. But Nintendo is keeping the price under wrap in the range of $449-$499 in the US. Pre-order? Coming on April 24. But guess what has been juggled under the price category: accessories are getting price-shuffled. So yes, that extra Joy-Con or Pro Controller is going to hurt a little more for you.
What’s the scoop? Well, the indication that it’s not slashing prices is because, once again, they’re talking about triumphant Nintendo hardware releases, and the sequel already has
built the hype, so fans could just be counted on to cough it up. They are probably right. After all, spec rumors are buzzing about support for 4K, might-beefier batteries, and then a sprinkle of DLSS, and top price is just an upgrade away.
But accessories? That’s where it gets really hot. No specifics yet in terms of items that are likely to go up in price or how much they’ll shoot up, but from what is known, Nintendo is big on its margin bumps on peripherals. Remember those $70 Joy-Con replacements? Yeah, that kind of energy might be back.
April 24 is when the pre-orders will start to roll out, and the countdown has begun. For those of you who want to be among the first to purchase this item soon after it goes into the market, you better mark your dates as they sell out fast, especially with scalpers that want to take advantage of a brand-new Nintendo launch.
Oddly so, no reply has come in to this tweet. Usually, the news from Nintendo sets the world ablaze, but everybody’s probably refreshing that pre-order page. Or maybe they’re just still reeling from the shock of the price. Either way, it will all be chaos come April 24.
So verdict? A big no for Switch 2, but accessories might hurt indeed. So save up, everybody-your wallet is set to get some blow.
