A new trailer for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3 Story DLC ReMind appeared briefly on the official Square Enix YouTube channel this week before being taken down without explanation.
However, that didn’t stop the gaming community from downloading and sharing the trailer, making it an instant smash release across YouTube.
See for yourself, below.
The trailer shows off a few bits of information that we already knew. For starters, we see gameplay footage wherein the player can control various characters other than Sora. This was a major complaint a lot of gamers had when playing through the main game.
The plot centered around Sora gathering seven warriors to stand with him against 13 soldiers of darkness. However, other than a brief foray into the Dark World as Riku and an even more brief boss fight in control of Aqua, players remained Sora for the majority of the game.
In this trailer, we can see gameplay for characters we’ve already controlled, like Riku and Aqua, but also Ventus, Terra, Roxas, and Xion. Most notably, we got a great first look at the gameplay for Kairi, a mainstay of the Kingdom Hearts franchise who has never been playable throughout its entire history.
If that wasn’t enough to make players swoon, we also got to see our first look at Final Fantasy VII legends Aerith and Yuffie, along with Leon (AKA Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy VIII). These characters, along with Cloud Strife, have been featured in all of the main title Kingdom Hearts games since the first one released on the PlayStation 2 console. They were notably absent from Kingdom Hearts 3, which disappointed many vocal fans.
It appears as though these characters will be making their Kingdom Hearts returns in ReMind, but the extent of their involvement is as of yet unknown. There is no word yet on if Cloud, Tifa, or Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII will make an appearance. However, this DLC will be coming out shortly before Final Fantasy VII Remake hits shelves in March of 2020, so don’t be shocked if they pop up.
ReMind appears to take place after the events of the main game, with Sora and Kairi struggling to find their way home after the epic battle with Master Xehanort and his dark remnants.
Kingdom Hearts 3 ReMind will be released first on the PlayStation 4 console on January 23, 2020. Shortly after, it will be released for Xbox One on February 25, 2020. Both versions are available now for Pre-Order.
