This surprise update would bring Rivet City back in the game, offering players rewards, including double XP and REP, just for playing a single match in Rivet City Park. It almost sounded too good to be true, so the defense from the community has been mixed, to say the least. The hype is about the rewards, while the community has been roasting 2K mercilessly about everything—there are issues with matching, and with the pay-to-win, and so on.

The event itself, first of all. Rivet City is back, so if you are for some uber-retro vibes, this is your party. Go to the Event Center and play just one match in Rivet City Park, then BOOM, there’s your reward. Easy stuff, right? Well, not so fast! There is already some talk from players like Elijah (@w32362929) criticizing the setup for making people wait around for courts to open, instead of just having the event load up like Theater mode. Really though, who likes just sitting there in a virtual lobby watching others play while you just stare at the screen?

The bigger things: the state of NBA 2K in general. Replies to this tweet are outright a warzone of grievances. Some players like @StillBumpy are just flat-out moving on to GTA and Warzone, calling 2K “only fun for 3 or 4 months max.” Others are less subtle about their opinion, with one saying, “pay to win dogshit.” Ouch.

And then you get a bunch of people raging about matchmaking. @KBergRGB called out the ridiculousness of “a 6’9″ forward having to guard a 5’9″ guard who’s maxed out on stats,” which sounds abominable. @SadKnicksFan0 meanwhile is questioning why their player moves “so fing slow”—and I agree.

The bigger issue? A whole lot of people are already talking about NBA 2K26. @_RDAWGGG summed it up pretty well: “Aye jus announce 26 so I can see if I’m skipping it or spending my money😂.” Others, like @fymho3, have vowed to boycott 2K “unless 2k comes correct on the next installment.”

But all is not lost. There is some hope left in the world, for example from the likes of @Jaye_GreenBacks: “Make builds cheaper so more variety will be worth looking into.” Then you’ve got @Blake24121 with one clear request: “Take out RNG pls… if I time my shot perfectly I wanna hit that shit.” Fair enough.

At the end of the day, the NBA 2K Rivet City event is just a nice little bonus that simply won’t matter to the greater part of the community. Be it the matchmaking, the paywalls, or the actual grind, players want much more from the franchise. Will 2K listen? Time will tell; for now though, if you’re jumping into Rivet City, enjoy the double rewards and don’t expect everyone to be celebrating with you.
